i corinthians 12:8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

1 Corinthians 12:10

GOD WANTS TO SPEAK TO US!
OBJECTIVES
To define the gift of tongues
to teach the purpose of speaking in tongues
if we have time to explore ( interpretation of tongues)
SIMPLE DEFINATION FOR TONGUES IS TO SPEAK IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE
TONGUES IS LISTED AS A SUPERNATURAL GIFT.
TONGUES IS NOT AN APPITUDE TO LEARN A LANGUAGE.

1Corinthians 14:2

the speaker speaks to GOD!
the speaker speaks mysteries!
no one understands him!
speaker does not know what he is saying
the speaker has never learned the language

Acts 2

all were filled with the Holly Spirit.
the Spirit gave the utterance

TONGUES AS A SIGN

FOR OUT PURPOSE TODAY AS WE LOOK AT THE MANIFESTATION GIFT OF TONGUES as found in I Corinthians 12:10
tongues defined: as a supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit in which a person speaks in a language which he has never learned and which he does not understand.

PRAYER IS SPEAKING TO GOD
in the spirit he speaks mysteries

Romans 8:26

spirit helps our infirmities
we know not what to pray
with groanings
define infirmities: weakness, infirmity or deficiency, SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS
WE ARE ALL DEFICIENT : WE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PRAY AS WE OUGHT.
HOW DO WE GET OUR PRAYER ANSWERED?
WE MUST ASK
ASK ACCORDING TO GOD’S WILL

James4:2

you do not have because you ask not

TRANSLATION; WOULD BE A LITERAL WORD FOR WORD RENDERING OF WHAT IS BEING SAID.
INTERPRETATION WOULD BE AN EXPLANANTION OF WHAT WAS BEING SAID. OR THE GEST OF WHAT IS BEING SAID
DEFININATION: FOR INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES; THE SUPERNATURAL REVELING OF THE GENERAL MEANING OF AN UTTERANCE OF TONGUES.
THE PERSON SPEAKING IN TONGUES DOES NOT KNOW THE WORDS HE’S SPEAKING
THE PERSON WHO GIVES THE INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES DOES NOT KNOW THE WORDS BEING SPOKEN.
ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST THE DISCIPLES SPOKE IN TONGUES THAT THEY DIDN’T KNOW HOWEVER THERE WAS NO NEED OF INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES BECAUSE EVERYONE HEARD THEM IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE REF ACTS 2:6-11

WORDS THAT CAN’T BE UTTERED

THE GIFT OF INTERPRETATION IS ACTUALLY THE GIFT OF EXPLANATION OF WHAT WAS SPOKEN IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE.
THE INTERPRETATION IS USUALLY ADDRESSED TO THE PERSON OR PERSONS THE PRAYER IS ABOUT.
THE MESSAGE IS THE GIST OF WHAT WAS SPOKEN IN TONGUES.
