Reliable: In our failure
Main Idea: Because God is reliable, our failure is not final.
“Our failure is not final” sounds like a nice Instagram post that everyone wants for themselves and others right? Then the time comes and you actually blow it, big time. In this day and age we live in what is called “cancel culture”. You mess up, you’re out. You have a failure and the world records it on a smartphone and it defines you by that failure forever.
There is a lady running for Cal Gov. She lost her cool with one of her employee’s on video and it went viral. I don’t know if she can come back from that.
Core Verse: (Bulletin & Slide)
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
Like last week we learned about two people who built differently. One on a foundation of rock “Jesus” and the other on a foundation of sand “everything other than Jesus”. When the storm came one endured and the other crashed.
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
Two people: righteous and the wicked.
Righteous: right with God / Wicked: not following God
John Wesley argued that the "righteous" is not one who is sinless or perfect, but one who is "sincere of heart with God."
17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
Righteous ppl understand the importance of a repentant heart and a spirit yielded to the Lord.
When righteous people fail it breaks their hearts because they know it breaks God’s heart. - Your better than this J!
All God wants is a humbled heart that is broken over our personal sin.
Your mistakes don’t cancel His faithfulness. (Slide)
Why? Because “you God will not despise (reject, refuse) it”.
He see the difference between righteous (I am truly sorry) and the wicked (I am sorry because I got caught).
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
Seven: is a Hebrew idiom for "many" or "frequently." You will fail many times.
This isn't a license to sin seven times, but an encouragement for those who feel they have failed God.
Do you ever ask your self why do I keep doing the things I hate?
My hero in the faith is Paul - He wrote this.
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
The mark of your righteousness is not the absence of a fall, but the God-given persistence to get back up.
16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
The righteous man's falls are temporary - they rise again.
It’s all about the "Rising": The "rising" is the mark of the righteous. They continue the pursuit of holiness despite setbacks.
If you’ve failed, you need to hear this:
Failure is an event, it is not an identity. You are not “a failure”; you are someone who has just “failed.”
Failure can only become your identity if you stay down. Can you fall down if you are already down? No. You have to get back up to fall again.
The Christian walk is all about falling and getting back up.
Because God is reliable, His grace provides a way back to the path every single time.
The “rising” isn't about being perfect; it’s about being persistent.
So, what’s your next right move? Don't stay down just because you're embarrassed. Get up.
God’s reliability is tied to His promises, not your perfection.
We have to stop thinking that our sin is bigger than God's grace.
Your failure isn't final because God’s compassion never fails.
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
God is reliable the prophet Jeremiah tells us, His compassion are new every single morning.
Not ever other month or week. Not every other morning.
Not just the mornings you feel holy. Not just the days you aren't hung over!
Every morning! Every morning is a fresh start.
Every morning when we wake up we need to pray, “God, I’m still here, and I know You’re still there.” So fresh start. Your compassion never fails, they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!
After you have fallen the enemy whispers in your ear… you can’t pray that, your done. You will never come back from this.
8 Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.
Because God is reliable, your setback is just a setup for a comeback.
Takeaway Hook: "Your failure is a page in your book, but God is the Author—and the Author says the story isn't over."
Takeaway: Your mistakes don’t cancel His faithfulness.
