Let the whole earth shout triumphantly to the Lord!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God.
He made us, and we are his—
his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and bless his name.
For the Lord is good, and his faithful love endures forever;
his faithfulness, through all generations.

9 “Therefore, you should pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
your name be honored as holy.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not bring us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

What do you call your grandmother?
When the american forefathers fought the revolutionary war to free us from England and then when America had to fight them again in 1812 and they burned down the White House - I bet that those men and women that stood up to England would have been shocked to learn that within a hundred to a hundred and fifty years, whenever Disney started their cartoons, that it would be come the dream of every American girl to one day marry a prince.
Now, sometimes we make that symbolic, like oh Amber married her prince Tony, which is nice, I guess, but at the same time, I don’t have a castle, I’m not wealthy, I don’t even like to ride horses. I don’t know. It’s not quiet the same thing, I would think.
But there have been a few american women who have achieved the dream of marrying actual royalty. I asked Chat GPT and I got 12 women only four american men have married royalty, so the guys got some catching up to do.
Famously there was Grace Kelly who gave up hollywood to marry the Prince of Monaco and of course, more Recently Meghan Markle
She is given a hard time for her marriage because she has had some faux paus, some social mistakes.
She had a hard time adjusting to the royal life, probably because of how american she is. She shared one of her stories to Oprah about meeting the queen, which offended a lot of people, including americans, because she had to curtsy when she met her. She thought she was going to to be meeting just a typical grandmother, nana, abuela abuelita, now she had to do a curtsy and a bow and then refer to her as your majesty.
She struggled with something that we can also struggle with -[ Relational closeness doesn’t erase HONOR.]

We are continuing our series within a series, so this summer we are focusing on Prayer and Presence but now we are looking at the Lord’s Prayer
And it starts off in verse 9 like this Matthew 6:9
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
your name be honored as holy.
So the first part was that God is our father, and we talked about that last week. How prayer starts when we understand that we are invited to talk to God the way a child would talk to his father. We have access and he cares for us. We are dust, we forget that, but he remembers that.
So we are able to speak to him openly and pour out our hearts to Him.
But looks what happens immediately after that
Your name be honored as holy
He immediately goes to worship. He starts to worship God.
Now this can seem odd the same way that it was odd to Megan that she had to bow to her husband’s grandmother.
We have an underlying assumption in america - that our social world is equal flatt
But that’s not always the way people see things
Doesn’t it make you feel weird that you had to think of people as your superiors or your inferiors. Like you probably have people that you think your better than but you wouldn’t call them your inferiors
we are all equal
That’s what Megan was thinking. How can your grandmother be someone you have to approach that way? Why becasue we think of relationships as flatt. I’m sure Dolley Madison never thought that americans would be upset over the way another american curtsied to the queen of the country that just set the white house on fire!
But there you have it.
When it comes to God the dynamic is the tension between the transendence and the immanence of God.
[TRANSCENDENCE - God is bigger than us, holier than us, and better than us]
[IMMANENCE- God is close to us]
Whenever i think of this i think about the genie from aladdin - phenomenal cosmic power and itty bitty living space but for God it’s increadlabe cosmic power, he’s the creator of all there are no mysteries for him, but he has increadble cosmic power but he is also very close to you.
We know that just having a transcendent relationship with your parents is problematic.
Mr. Banks from Marry Poppins
6:01 and 6:03 I’ll pat them on the head and set the off to bed - that’s two minutes. It’s actually one minute after his sherry and pipe are due.
It was the move of the father from a transedence to immannce - from Glory and biggness to closeness
But the opposite is a problem too.
SNL actually did a skit on this- a parent who loses all authority over your kids
There aren’t really at tension, you can have a close meaningful relationship that’s also buit on respect.
So why do we worship God
[We worship God because he DESERVES it]
Someone makes you homemade lasagna and your’ like - I was hoping for spaghetti
But why wouldn’t we do that with God? Why would we think it’s appropriate to not recognize and praise him for every good thing in our life?
verse: Revelation 4:11
11 Our Lord and God,
you are worthy to receive
glory and honor and power,
because you have created all things,
and by your will
they exist and were created.
But what about this: the gospel
{ABC’s of Repentance}
3 Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before him. 5 He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he lavished on us in the Beloved One.
Just that alone. We worship God because He deserves it!
2. [We worship because it REMINDS us of his past faithfulness]
ITs in the heart of all of us to forget God and his goodness.
praying for two things
People betrayed him, he was hiding form a king Saul who was trying to kill him
6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you.
I will praise your name, Lord,
because it is good.
7 For he has rescued me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked down on my enemies.
His son was trying to overthrow the kingdom and kill him
3 Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me;
let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me
and rescued me from all my fears.
How often when you are going through do you draw comfort and emotional peace from the fact that you are saved.
3 [We worship because it gives us HOPE for his future faithfulness]
You’ll praise him for the way he has delivered you now
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his faithful love endures forever.
I look back to remember how he’s been faithful to look forward in hope of this future faithfulenss
10 All the nations surrounded me;
in the name of the Lord I destroyed them.
11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
in the name of the Lord I destroyed them.
12 They surrounded me like bees;
they were extinguished like a fire among thorns;
in the name of the Lord I destroyed them.
17 I will not die, but I will live
and proclaim what the Lord has done.
I know God will deliver me
Take time this week to be thankful to praise him
Praise him for how he has been working in the church, praise him for how he has saved you.
That God would use in a special to impact the kingdom:
Thank god for the gifts that he has given you, your personality, your passions, your uniqunesses - God made us all differently to be working in the kingdom and too often people are just down on themselves.
[God made you, YOU ,so that he could use you.]
How is he already using you? Time, Treasure, Testimony
So we enter into prayer knowing that God’s our father but that closeness doesn’t erase honor so we still worship Him. We worship because he deserves it, because it reminds us of his past faithfulness and gives us hope for his future faithfulness. So praise him and worship him for how he is using you and how is is working in all of us togehter.
Lord’s Supper:
Lord’s Supper:
On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
Benediction:
Benediction:
The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD makes his face shine upon you and be gracious to you:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
