Why was man created for what purpose? How can we achieve that purpose? The WESTMINSTER SHORTER CATECHISM answers this well in their first two questions.
WESTMINSTER SHORTER CATECHISM
What is the chief end of man?
What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever. says, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
11  e“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for fyou created all things,
and gby your will they existed and were created.”
Q. 2. What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him?
A. The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments,[3] is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him.[4]
Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you.
What is the difference between man and the rest of creation? Mankind is made in the image of God, and God gives mankind dominion over it. says, “ Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, s“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Then God said, o“Let us make man8 in our image, pafter our likeness. And qlet them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27  So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
What is the significance to us being made in the image of God?
Because man is God’s representative, his life is sacred: every assault on man is an affront to the creator and merits the ultimate penalty (). One article i read mentioned this. “as Christians waiting patiently for this day, we will endeavor to treat people made in God’s image with dignity and respect irrespective of gender, race, age, nationality or economic status because we remember our King’s words that as we did for “the least of these my brothers, you did also to me” ().
rmale and female he created them.
as Christians waiting patiently for this day, we will endeavor to treat people made in God’s image with dignity and respect irrespective of gender, race, age, nationality or economic status because we remember our King’s words that as we did for “the least of these my brothers, you did also to me” ().
Man was created to live in perfect harmony, but unfortunately it all changed because of Sin.
What is sin?
it is that positive rebellion against God’s authority which leads man to step beyond the boundary-lines of God’s law. Sin causes us to distort the truth, it causes us to miss the mark. Scriptures uniformly connect with “sin” three definite senses: 1. A perverted state of heart, which dominates and defiles (; ); 2. An impious rebellion against God, which refuses either to come up to the requirement or to keep within the restraint of law (; ); 3. An ill-desert or just liability to punishment, which universally follows the act of wrong-doing (; ).
When do we become sinners?

Really we became sinners at conception. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, s“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me. Why did his mother conceive him in sin, because in Adam all sin.
We are born sinners.
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.
Again In The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
because of our sin we are desperate for a savior? do you sin your own sins? are you treating others as if they they were made in the image of God? How can you glorify God today?
who can understand it?
