Ignorance of God, of both His ways and of the practice of communion with Him, lies at the root of the church’s weakness today.
Modern man spawns great thoughts of man and leaves room for only small thoughts of God.
Our first and great calling is to know our God.
There are many instances in scripture that point out about knowing God and the curse of not knowing God.
For example God takes those who do not yet know God and has said that it’s through preaching, that those who believe, will be saved.
— 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
Paul says — 8 But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods.
Heathen idols, the invention of man’s fallen mind, are the things that those who do not know God, serve.
Paul describes the heathen who do not know God, as those engaged in sexual immorality. — 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;
Christ second coming is described as coming “in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” ()
John says that one of the definitive marks that a person is saved and knows God is that they love one another.
— 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
If churches are to prosper in her health, church members must be committed to being biblical theologians in whatever capacity they can.
When I use this word, ‘biblical theology’ i’m referring to knowing God Himself.
I’ve got two things in my mind.
FIRST We must keep in mind that the Bible is the self-revelation of God; it is the source material for developing great thoughts about God.
These believers do start sentences with “I like to think of God as...”
We don’t blend a little New Age and some Hinduism and a little Christianity to yield for ourselves a custom-fitted deity.
SECOND We want to be committed to understanding the history of revelation, the grand themes and doctrines of the Scriptures and how they fit together.
