Truths About Eternal Security

Introduction

From this one verse we can learn lots of valuable truth. From this verse, we could learn enough truth to last us a life time.

The reality is that Noah may have built the ark, but it was God who gave the strength and the instruction. Noah, by faith, may have entered the ark, but it was the Lord Who shut him in.

It is the same with us. We may have faith, but it was God Who gave Jesus the instruction to die for us. We may have entered into salvation in Jesus by faith, but it is the Lord Who has sealed us.

Ephesians 4:30 NKJV

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

I want you to know that you are secure in your salvation.

Because we are secure in our salvation, we can freely live and worship God.

Genesis 7:16 NKJV

So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in.

A. God is Judging the World With a Great Flood

1. Why does He judge?

“Judge not! God is love!”

God judges because He is good

The Crooked Judge

Imagine if someone has wronged you. They have wronged you in such a bad way that you are now taking them to court to be prosecuted for the sin they committed against you.

But now imagine that before the trial ever commences, you see the offender walk into the judges quarters, and 30 minutes later they come out together, smiling, walking step in step, laughing and patting one another on the back.

Now, the judge gets to the stand and asks you your case. Almost immediately, despite all the evidence, the judge says, “There isn’t enough evidence, this case is dismissed.”

You’d say he was a crooked judge! You wouldn’t say he is a good judge!

God is a good judge, and He must uphold the law, and He must punish the evil doer. If He didn’t punish those who were evil, then He would cease to be God because He would cease to be good.

2. Who Does He Judge?

God judges everybody.

This means two things:

God judges collectively. Just like we have here in the story of Noah, God is judging the world collectively.

God judges individually.

We are all personally accountable to God, and therefore we need a personal savior! We, by faith, need to enter into the safety of Jesus Christ to escape the judgement of God.

3. How Does He Judge?

God judges according to our works.

We are not saved by works, but we are certainly judged by works.

Job 34:11 NKJV

For He repays man according to his work, And makes man to find a reward according to his way.

Since we are judged by works, we know that we will all be under judgement because everyone has done something that God says is evil.

Romans 3:23 NKJV

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

When we are saved, forgiven, and sanctified, what we’ve done is ceased to trust in our works, and we are now trusting in the work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

So, when Jesus judges the sinner according to their works, here is what He will say:

Matthew 7:23 NKJV

And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

But when Jesus judges those that have trusted in His work, Jesus will say, “Well done!”

Why?

Because we are leaning on the works of Jesus which are perfect, not on our works, which are evil.

Even though God is judging the world with a great flood, He is saving the world with an even greater ark!

B. God is Saving the World with a Great Ark

1. Why Does He Save?

He saves because of His great love!

John 3:16 NKJV

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

2. Who Does He Save?

Anyone who is willing to, by faith, walk onto that ark of safety we know as Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:13 NKJV

For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

3. How Does He Save?

He saves by fatih in the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

God operates by promises, and what God first promised was a savior to come and defeat sin, death, and satan.

Then He promises that if we look to the savior who defeated sin, death, and satan instead of relying on our works, then we will be saved.

Once we have that salvation that comes by faith, we have security. The Lord shuts us in!

I. Our Life is Purpose-Filled

A. Clarity

So many people live in a fog.

Romans 12:1–2 NKJV

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

B. Direction

Once we have clarity, we can go in the correct direction

C. Endurance

When we know the end, we can endure!

Hebrews 12:1–2 NKJV

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

II. Predetermined Outcome

Living the Christian life is like watching a replay of a championship game you’ve already won!

Turn to the book of Romans 8:

A. Safety

Romans 8:1 NKJV

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Romans 8:18 NKJV

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Romans 8:28 NKJV

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:38–39 NKJV

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

B. Maturity

Romans 8:29 NKJV

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

This means that once we are sealed by the Spirit of God, we will be like Jesus and there is nothing we can do to stop it!

C. Glory

Romans 8:30 NKJV

Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

When we become like Jesus, we will wear the crown of victory. Our destination is predetermined and we can walk in that confidence each and every day!

III. Personal Responsibility

A. To Worship

To worship God is to live a life that honors Him!

It’s more than just emotional singing and coming to church. It is a self-denial that says, “Jesus, you are my King and my Lord, I am at your disposal!”

B. To Work

Now, we are judged by works, either our works or the works of Jesus on the Cross, but we are not saved by works.

However, we are saved to work.

Faith = Justification + Works

James 2:18 NKJV

But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

When God came to save Noah, he had some work to do!

Genesis 6:14–15 NKJV

Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. And this is how you shall make it

Genesis 6:22 NKJV

Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

C. To Witness

Noah had a message of Hope, and so do we!

1 John 3:3 NKJV

And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

The world is wicked, dirty, full of sin, and something that will be cleansed by the judgement of Almighty God.

When God judges the world collectively, He will also judge both the living and the dead. Those who are without Christ do not have this great hope.

But those who have Christ have this great hope that has purified us! Come Hell or high water, we are held in the hands of the Father!

We when know that we are saved and have confidence in that salvation, we are freely live and worship God!
