Introduction
There are certain truths that we learn from an early age:
What goes up must come down.
If there is a sunrise, then there must also be a sunset.
In the same way, we realize that if you are born, then surely one day you will also die.
It is a 100% guarantee, that one day we will die.
No one lives forever.
There is no single human being that can simply go on living forever and ever without ever experiencing death.
In fact, even Ethel Catherman, the oldest woman in recent history is about to turn 117 years old on August 21, 2026.
Even Ethel will one day die.
However, there is one person that die not die .
In Genesis 5 we learn about several of Adam’s descendants and we read about how old they were when they died.
For example, Adam died when he was 930 years old.
The man who lived the longest, Methuselah, lived 969 years.
So there are at least 10 generations of people that were born, lived, and died…except for one person - Enoc.
22 Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.
We read that he walked with God and one day he simply disappeared because God took him.
Enoc was nowhere to be found - he was in God’s presence and that is where he will forever be.
Now, how is it that Enoch could’ve escaped death?
The Bible tells us the key to his escape from death.
We see it in both verse 22 and 24 - Enoch walked with God.
Enoch had a close relationship with the Creator.
Enoch lived to please and serve God.
Enoch was a true worshipper of the God of the Bible.
Enoch knew God and God knew his son Enoch.
…so one day, God simply decided that he would take Enoch to his presence so that he would not experience death.
Now, we know this was truly an exception for we only read about one other human being that did not die - the prophet Elijah.
But no other humans in the entire history of humanity have escaped death.
Even the Lord Jesus Christ - the God-man - died upon the cross - even he experienced death.
But, can we find any hope in this story?
Yes! We know that though we die, we will continue to live.
You see, death is not our ultimate destiny.
Death is not the last train station.
Death is simply a doorway to our ultimate home.
As Christian believers, we understand that one day we will die.
27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
But, death will not be the end.
In fact, we will be immediately ushered into God’s presence and will experience the same joy and happiness that Enoch experienced when God decided to take him into his presence.
We have confidence that although we cannot escape death, we have hope beyond the grave.
We believe that in God’s power to raise up our mortal remains from the grave.
One day God will give life to all those that have died with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
So, do not fear death, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ:
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,
