Ephesians 6:10–20 ESV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
Romans 13:11–14 ESV
11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
"Conduct unbecoming" in the military refers to actions that violate professional, ethical, or moral standards. For officers, this is specifically prosecuted under Article 133 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ)
2 Corinthians 10:3–6 ESV
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Give thought to a solder in a trench during a conflict.
2 Corinthians 6:3–10 ESV
3 We put no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4 but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5 beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6 by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; 7 by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8 through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.
Reminder
Ephesians 6:10 ESV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
2 Timothy 2:1–4 ESV
1 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. 3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.
We have nothing to fear when we realize who is in us!
1 John 4:4 ESV
4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Ephesians 6:10–11 AMP
10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. 11 Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
Belt of Truth: The belt of truth represents foundational Christian beliefs and character, grounded in the objective truth of the Gospel that believers live out daily.
Breastplate of Righteousness: The breastplate of righteousness encompasses both God’s justifying righteousness—Christ’s righteousness imputed to believers—and the ethical righteousness believers must cultivate in their own lives.
Helmet of Salvation: The helmet of salvation represents believers’ present confidence in Christ’s power and authority over the demonic realm, assured of their rescue from darkness and the ultimate victory of the battle.
Sword of the Spirit: Proper handling of Scripture—the Sword—requires training and becomes both defensive protection and an offensive tool to “demolish strongholds” of error and falsehood.
Shield of Faith: The shield of faith, taken up alongside the worn armor, protects believers by enabling them to trust in God’s power to protect and provide in all circumstances.
Shoes: symbolize a "readiness" to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, acting as an offensive stance by bringing the message of salvation into the territory of darkness.
