Love Perfected by the Word

Week one: We learned that love must be rooted in God’s Word, or it becomes mere sentiment.

Week two: We saw that love must be guided by truth, because truth protects love from deception.

Week three: We discovered that love must discern, testing what is good and rejecting what harms.

Week five: We learned that love corrects, restoring and strengthening relationships through God’s truth.

Week five. We saw that love endures, strengthened by the hope and perseverance Scripture provides.

(Transition) And today we get to the final message in this particular series. Love is perfected, brought to maturity as we abide in the word of God.

Icebreaker: Paint the picture cup of coffee/cocoa the lake, dark/sunrise, illumination - transformation, that is what God’s word does, it illuminates us, it transforms us, it perfects us.

Big Idea: The more we abide in Scripture, the more God’s love is perfected in us and displayed to the world.

Abiding in the Word Produces Fruitful love

John 15:5–8 ““I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.”

Jesus makes it clear: Fruitful is impossible

Abiding means remaining, staying, continuing — not visiting Scripture, but living in it.

When we abide in Christ through His Word

Hearts soften, attitudes shift, reactions change, and our love becomes visible and tangible

Fruit is not forced — it is produced.

Love is the first fruit the world should taste from a life rooted in Scripture

(Simple illustration) A branch does not strain to produce grapes; it simply stays connected. Likewise, love flows naturally from a life connected to the Word.

Keeping the Word Deepens Our Love For Christ

1 John 2:5 “but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:”

and then add to that John 15:10 ““If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

John says that keeping God’s Word is how love is perfected in us.

Obedience is not legalism — it is love expressed.

The more we obey, the more we understand Christ’s heart.

The more we understand Christ’s heart, the more we love Him.

The more we love Him, the more we desire to obey.

A Holy Circle: Abiding — Obeying — Loving — Abiding more Deeply

Jesus ties love and obedience together:

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love.”

Love matures when Scripture moves from our ears to our habits, from our minds to our hearts.

The World Sees God’s Love Through Us

John 15:12 ““This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.”

and then John 13:35 ““By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.””

Jesus says the world will know we belong to Him by our love.

Not by our buildings, programs, or preferences— but by our Scripture-shaped love.

When we abide in the Word:

Our love becomes more patient

Our forgiveness becomes quicker

Our compassion becomes deeper

And our Unity becomes stronger

A church that abides in Scripture becomes a living display of God’s love.

Key Truth: The world cannot see God, but it can see God’s love in God’s people.

How to Abide So Love Can Grow

Abide Daily

Not out of duty, but desire. Even 10-min of Scripture daily shapes the heart.

Obey immediately

Delayed obedience is disobedience. When Scripture speaks — respond.

Love intentionally

Choose someone this week to love sacrificially, visibly, and joyfully.

Reflect honestly

Ask yourself

Is my love maturing? Is Scripture shaping my reactions? Do people see Christ’s love in me?

Stay Connected to Christ

Abiding is not a task —it is a relationship.

Conclusion- Let Love Be Your witness of God’s love

The world is starving for real love, not shallow, not conditional, not self-centered love. God has given us the source of His love, His Word. When we abide in His Scripture then our love grows. When we obey Scripture, love deepens. And when we display Scripture love shines.

This is the goal of the Christian life, to hear the Scripture, believe it, obey it and become a living testimony of God’s love to others.
