The Rewards or Punishment for Our Service (vv. 41-48)
“Who’s this parable for?” asked Peter.”
“Who’s this parable for?” asked Peter.”
?” asked Peter.”
Jesus doesn’t answer the question.
Well he does.
Just not explicitly.
He tells another parable.
He is addressing his expectations for those disciples and others who will be put in charge of His Church.
The servant who is found working when the master returns will be rewarded (42-44)
“He will be put in charge of all His possessions”(44)
2. The servant who beats the slaves and parties while the master is away will be cut to pieces and put with the unbelievers, and beaten severely (45-49).
If the servant did not know any better, he would only be beaten lightly (48a).
Why the difference in punishments?
Principle: Much is required of everyone who has been given much, and even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more (48b,c)
