we saw last week that Jesus had told the disciples to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit because he would help them live this life as a Christian enabling them to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria & to the ends of the Earth. so we see he has come.
The Holy Spirit came to help the disciples break free of the boundaries of ethnicities, language, birth & national geography, the book assumes we understand this & Pauls letters to the churches throughout the NT unpack this for people.
Jesus came to bring about unity, bring peace to those near & far .
Unity is what will bring us all together, unity crosses the world & says if you’re in Christ thats all that matters.
Last week in Jesus tells the disciples to go to the ends of the world, but take the Holy Spirit with you. It’s important to understand that the Holy Spirit gives us the power to do this, the Holy Spirit helps us to break boundaries that could otherwise keep us apart.
ok so what is the baptism of the Spirit?
There are only 2 times in the Bible that the phrase baptism in the Spirit is used 1 is in & the other is in . other times the phrase the Spirit coming upon someone or something similar is used and that comes from the Greek word Epi which means upon or on.
The simple explanation of the baptism in the Spirit is The Spirit coming upon a Christian, filling them with power for service, enabling the Christian to be able to witness as Jesus said in Acts 1:8
The accounts in of the day of Pentecost are of great significance to not only the early Church but also to successive generations of Christians.

The spirit guided all Jesus’s ministry, both his healing activities and his teaching. The power behind his ministry came to the disciples after the resurrection and ascension.
Jesus told his Disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the gift that God had promised in and not to move until they had been clothed with power from on high. Jesus tells them “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” .
The Holy Spirit would enable them to complete the great commission. Just as believers today, need the same power to equip them for service.
A believer at the point of conversion experiences the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
for us to have new life with Christ requires new birth, the water baptism being what we go through after repentance but being born of the Spirit requires the work of the Holy Spirit. It his power that brings regeneration, there is no other way.
if we are after Spiritual renewal or power, then something of the Spirit needs to born in us, verse 6 that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. we cannot find spiritual answers by fleshly means. again verse 6.
my friend Pastor David Mansfield says “ The Spiritual birth is the prerequisite for “entry” into the Kingdom of God. The Greek word “eiserchomai” (entry) means; “to enter into, enjoy, partake of”. Our membership of this force for good is dependent of a work of the Holy Spirit regenerating us & empowering us for its (the Kingdoms) service.
Then there then follows the act of the infilling of the Holy Spirit to provide this power.
But there then follows the act of the infilling of the Holy Spirit to provide this power.

In it clearly shows that all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and that all spoke in tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Speaking with other tongues was the evidence of the coming of the Holy Spirit and this is a pattern shown in the early Church experiences.
For example, in Cornelius’s house, while ‘Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God’.
When Paul was in Ephesus “when Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
In even though it doesn’t mention that anyone spoke in tongues, it seems plausible that they did because Acts 8v18 ‘when Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles hands he offered them money’ and v19 ‘give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hand may receive the Holy Spirit’ There must have been some outward sign for him to respond in that way, I can only come to the conclusion that it was a full-on Pentecost experience.
The Book of Acts: A Commentary Visible Signs of the Invisible Spirit

Few things could be more surprising to human beings than suddenly speaking in a language they had not learned. When the Holy Spirit came, the disciples immediately experienced the first fulfillment of Jesus’ prophetic word to them: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father” (John 14:12).

Some have trouble with the “greater works” part of this promise. They ask how anyone could do greater works than Jesus Christ.

The Book of Acts: A Commentary Visible Signs of the Invisible Spirit

the power by which Jesus did His works was the Holy Spirit, and that the power through which Jesus’ disciples did their works is the same Holy Spirit, who is God Himself and who can do works of any magnitude at any time He wishes. If we relied on human power to do our works, none of us could even approach any of Jesus’ works. But our works can be done with superhuman power, provided by God Himself.

The first miracle after Jesus ascension is a work that as far as we know, the Holy Spirit never did through Jesus. Jesus never spoke in a language he didn’t learn, but the disciples did. in fact they spoke in at least 15 languages amongst themselves & were understood by those who spoke them as their native Languages.
So, important if you are to grow in your relationship with God you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
listen a light bulb is just a bit of glass filled with some wiring until it is connected to electricity through the mains, we are like a light bulb, we have all that we need to be all that we can be, our mains is the Holy Spirit. if you’re not connected to the mains you won’t have power, what a waste.
By connecting with God, by being filled with the Holy Spirit, it enables God to work on you from the inside out, there’s a connection.
Note: Use personal stories of how being filled with the Holy Spirit has changed your life.
The Bible in
Galatians 5:16–26 ESV
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Galatians 5:16-2
For the Christian to have a full life in Christ, to be able to live in this imperfect world I will again say how important it is to be filled with the Holy Spirit, becoming a Christian isn’t a lonely thing where God is a far of being, He comes to dwell within us, He does the journey with us, our constant companion, he is our councillor, our helper. He has everything we could ever need we just need to be attuned to Him and the way for that to happen is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. So who wants to be filled with the Holy Spirit, We can pray for you right now if you want. There is no special formula, we pray and ask God and god gives because God wants to give us good gifts. He wants you to have the best life possible.
25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
we never have to fear that God is stingy with his gifts for his children.

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

The Holy Spirit isn’t for the few, it’s for everyone
we only have to ask, we never have to fear being short of the Spirits power.
Luke 10:21 ESV
In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
just something the whole of the Bible points to Jesus, the old & the new Testaments. The scripture that Jesus would & did use was the old testament & Peter in his speech used it to, it was relevant then & it is relevant now. all scripture is God breathed .

Acts 2:42–47 ESV
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Teaching = It’s good to be a restore group, they are important in connecting with each other, growing friendships & going deeper into what has been preached on a Sunday.
It’s good to come together, come to church, again get in a restore group, come to the prayer meetings, break bread together.
something the early church did. is there anyone in need, the church shouldn’t see anybody go without, i’m talking about in the church. we feed people outside but we should also help those in the church.
1 john 3
who has need among us, let me tell you there is need here sometimes Spiritual, sometimes physical & sometimes emotional & sometimes financial.
do we ask how someone is & really mean it. do we really want the answer. if someone told you they were struggling with one of these would you just pray and walk away or follow Christs example & do something about it.
The baptism of the Spirit is The Spirit coming upon a Christian, filling them with power for service, enabling the Christian to be able to witness as Jesus said in
James 2:14–17 ESV
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
