Illustration
Your mission: To get a book from the top shelf in order to obtain financial freedom.
Imagine that you are given 30 seconds to achieve the task.
You have to get the key from the top shelf and use it to open the safe.
If you can open the safe all the money in the safe is yours. You have to do this by yourself with no help from any body in the room.
You are seated in a chair 50 feet from the cabinet.
You are seat in a chair.
Your right leg is tied to the chair.
You can only raise your right hand above your head.
You can’t point it down towards your leg.
Your left hand can point down, but you can only move it to the left.
Your left leg cannot move at all and your hips are paralyzed.
How will you get the key to open the safe?
The whole point of this illustration to to clearly show that a body that can not appreciate the importance of each member causes the while body to suffer, not just the parts that don’t function.
He starts out by saying “For” so that lets us know that he is still referring to the spiritual gifts.

Every ones gift is important to the body.
For the body is “one” or single.
It has many members, and no matter how many members all the members make up the body.
So also is Christ.
These members make up the body of Christ.

Do you see yourself as a member of a church, “Hillcrest” or do you see yourself as a member of Christ body?
If you see yourself as Christ body how are you contributing to the body?
Where do you fit in?
If you don’t see your self as the body of Christ why are you here?
What is your purpose?
Romans 12:3
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body.
We are “dipped” or “immersed” into the body.
Whether “Jew” or “Gentile” The new creation in Christ has done away with “ethnicity” or “Bond” or “Free” It has done away with “class”.
We have to be careful how we treat people.
How do we look at others in the body of Christ.
If you don’t respect everyone, how can we accept the gift that Holy Spirit has given them?
All have been made to drink into one Spirit!!!
Holy Spirit is the necessary for “life” to the body of Christ.
Just like we cannot survive without the life in our body “ which is in our blood” neither can we expect the body to survive without the life of Christ body which is Holy Spirit.
Therefore we must give respect to the gifts that the life of the body of Christ places in the body.
The body is not one member, but many - This speaks to our diversity.

If the foot shall say “ Because I am not the hand I am not part of the body; Is it not of the body.
As Paul usually says in other passages “ God forbid” It is still a part of the body.

The church is like a human body with many members.
Each member is totally dependent upon the other members.

“In this men’s class the majority of men who come to this class are active in some capacity in the church”
We need to pray that all members find something that do within the body of Christ.
But we need to be sensitive to what the Holy Spirit gives them.
We can’t say because someone only works in the parking lot that their gift isn’t important.
Nor can we say because someone is doing something for that body that isn’t that visible that they are not a part of the body.
Why?
Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
God is unified and therefore he expects us to be unified.
God is unified and therefore he expects us to be unified.
We are placed in the body of Christ by the “Father” and given gift’s by Holy Spirit.
That’s perfect unity within the Godhead.

We need to respect the placement of each member.
God has placed every member in the body as it has pleased him.
We don’t get to decide who is important!
We don’t get to decide who is important!
We need to help other members find their place through prayer, encouragement, allowing someone who appears to have a certain gift to come along side someone who is mature in that gift.
Guide them through discipleship “ giving them passages of scripture that helps to mature them.
More than anything we need to give each other space to “fail.”
We don’t always get it right.
It’s like learning how to walk for the first time or learning to ride a back.
We fall down, but our determination and consistent attempts help us gain the strength walk or ride a bike.
Lastly we need to pray for unity and opportunity for everyone to express their gift in the body.
