Psalm 27:1–14 KJV 1900
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, They stumbled and fell. 3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: Though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. 4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. 5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: In the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock. 6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord. 7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: Have mercy also upon me, and answer me. 8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. 9 Hide not thy face far from me; Put not thy servant away in anger: Thou hast been my help; leave me not, Neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10 When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the Lord will take me up. 11 Teach me thy way, O Lord, And lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. 12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: For false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. 13 I had fainted, unless I had believed To see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait, I say, on the Lord.
I. Introduction
A. David had a close relationship with God. He understood how to get a hold of God's Heart.
B. David knew that when he focused on God that everything else would come together for him.
C. David understood that if he could submit himself to the will of God, and submit himself to the direction of God that everything would be taken care of.
Psalm 23 KJV 1900
A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
II. Seeking and the Wait
A. If we could but understand that if we can just seek Him with our whole hearts, we will find Him!
2 Chronicles 15:15 KJV 1900
15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the Lord gave them rest round about.
B. David was constantly seeking The Lord.
1. His desire in life was to always be where God wanted him to be.
2. You can find over and over in the scripture where David would write how he desired The Lord.
Psalm 38:9 KJV 1900
9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; And my groaning is not hid from thee.
Psalm 63:1–4 KJV 1900
1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, My flesh longeth for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; 2 To see thy power and thy glory, So as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. 3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise thee. 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
Psalm 73:25 KJV 1900
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
C. There has come a time in my own life that I have begun desiring God even as I desire food and water.
1. I can't seem to find peace until I am filled with Him one more time.
2. The psalmist must have felt like this.
Psalm 42:1–2 KJV 1900
1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: When shall I come and appear before God?
III. Conclusion
A. Jesus promised that if we seek Him we will be filled!
Luke 6:21 KJV 1900
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
1. We need to seek God with our whole heart, NOW!
2. We don't have a day to wait.
3. There is an urgency in the Holy Ghost that is calling the people to a much deeper place.
4. If I can't respond to the calling of God when things are good how am I going to survive when things turn. I have to make it!
B. I am talking tonight of having One Desire!
Psalm 27:4 KJV 1900
4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
1. A desire to live for God!
2. A Desire to walk close to the Almighty!
C. During these times we MUST learn to wait on the LORD!
Psalm 27:14 KJV 1900
14 Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait, I say, on the Lord.
Isaiah 40:29–31 KJV 1900
29 He giveth power to the faint; And to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles; They shall run, and not be weary; And they shall walk, and not faint.
D. We must be ready when He calls!
1. When The Lord called to David he responded.
Psalm 27:8 KJV 1900
8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.
2. I'm thirsty for more of God.
3. I feel like the psalmist tonight.
Psalm 27:8 KJV 1900
8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.
Psalm 63:1 KJV 1900
1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, My flesh longeth for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
Psalm 143:6 KJV 1900
6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: My soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.
E. You have to always remember that the steps of a good man are ordered of God!
Psalm 37:23–28 KJV 1900
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: And he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: For the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. 25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his seed begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; And his seed is blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell for evermore. 28 For the Lord loveth judgment, And forsaketh not his saints; They are preserved for ever: But the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
