Received - to take willingly something given or something offered without force

Perception of Jesus (vs.10)

He was in the world (Why did He come to the world?)

Galatians 4:4–6 “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”

1 Timothy 1:15 “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”

1 John 4:9 “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.”

1 John 4:14 “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.”

It’s not that Christ all of sudden existed. He has always existed, yet came down into this wicked world!

1 John 5:19 “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”

John 15:18 “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.”

John 17:16 “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” (That’s why the world doesn’t like Christ or Christians. They’re out of this world!)

John 17:25 “O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.”

There are those that preach and teach a Jesus, but not the Jesus of the Bible!

2 John 7 “For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.”

2 Corinthians 11:4 “For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

Putting Away of Jesus (vs.11)

Isaiah 53:1–3 “Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, And as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; And when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: And we hid as it were our faces from him; He was despised, and we esteemed him not.”

No form - a visual appearance of something that is not pleasing to the eyes.

nor comeliness - the quality of a person or thing which inspires awe or reverence in the beholder

Despised -  To regard someone or something with contempt or as worthless.

Rejected - To deliberately refuse, not receive!

Acts 2:22–23 “Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:”

Acts 3:13–15 “The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.”

The nation of Israel denied Christ. They did not receive Him.

What’s also bad is that there are multitudes today who have not received Christ. He came, but some do not want Him. They know what He has done, but still they deny Him.

2 Corinthians 4:3–4 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

Picking Jesus! (vs.12)

Ephesians 2:1–3 “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.”

1 John 5:4–5 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”

Ephesians 2:8–9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
