It’s good to be here, the week after Pentecost. Last week, we celebrated the church’s birthday, and we remembered that the Spirit of God showed up, and because the Spirit is here, we change.
We get the God’s Spirit as the a free gift in our lives, and beause of that gift, we saw God’s Power and God’s Presence rest on the church.
Now that we have that power and that presence, we step into our purpose. You have a purpose, you were created for a mission.
This morning we are going to be in the Gospel of Matthew, the very last chapter, chapter 28, and it’s the last few verses of the book. Matthew 28:16-20.
At this time, Jesus has defeated death on the cross, He’s been resurrected, and He is with His disciples, and and he has news to tell them, all of the 27 chapters befroe this one, were leading somehwere. There was a scholar in the 1960s’ who said tha tht eversese we are about to read today, was a key that unlokced all the other things about the Gospel of Matthew.
Matthew 28:16–20 HCSB
The 11 disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. When they saw Him, they worshiped, but some doubted. Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The mission- or the purpose of the church is to make disciples for Christ.
We are called to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them into the same faith that we have; you can’t remove one from the other
All nations are a lot of people; it is a calling we have to take on because we have been commissioned.
Every disciple is called to discipleship

Some of us want to discipline, but we don't know how?

What do I need to be a disciple-making disciple?
Here’s what you do NOT need
certainity
a big audience
a degree in ministry
You need Christ
Are you a disciple of Christ? If you are not a disciple, it’s hard to make a disciple
“All authority (power) in heaven and earth has been given to Me”- Jesus
You can trust him.
I know this to be true mentally, but sometimes, it’s hard to live it out
right after watching a scary movie, and I go home and theres
When things get diffiuclt, when the world gets loud at it times, it starts to gets hard hearing Jesus’ voice, I start listening to Sam

When Christ is in control, when He is the center of your world,
you don't have to worry about anything-

Worship
Not just songs and dance, but it’s taking time vevery week and choosing to drive to a sanctuary, or tuning in online and choosing to leave all distractions behind.
Scripture, Music, it’s family time, by design we open the sacntuary every week to have a time where you can be disicipled. into this faith family.
Take this worship time seriously, it’s a freedom that not every brother and sister in Christ can have openly. the worship is still happening, it is that important.
Prayer:
the conversation that we have with the God who created us. take on this dsicipline. Go to God with everything that you have. the stuff you love, hate, and the stuf that confuses you.
Prayer is having a conversation with the only Person who knows you better than yourself.
Jesus was a person of extreme prayer, and his disicples looked at him one Sunday and said “Lord teach us to pray liek that!”
and He taught them what we know as the Lord’s prayer.
Fasting:
Fasting is the giving up of something good for a period of time to remind ourselves, we are not controlled by those good things, no matter how good they are.
Giving
tithes and offerings, it is a disicipline, money is more than money, it shapes what you do
Giving is also time, it's your talents, the passions that you’ve been given by God, share them with everyone else.
Scripture
Reading every day will be important
read indicvually, read in the church, let this book shape your life.
it is an owner’s manual inspired by the Creator
We do all of this, not to par ourselves on the back, but because they draw us closer to Christ, and Christ is all you need.
Now when we have been discipled by Chrsit, we care about what and who Christ cares about
we look OUT!
We tell others, when we listen to love that Christ has for the world, we also share in that love.
Where do I start?

you are disicipling them
What you allow
Freind
annoying family members
start praying that GOd would take what you are interested in and combine them with the mission
Be yourself-
more peole than we realize can see through the fake.
BE Preapared to Stop
