Beginning Questions

What does Jesus call us to do? - repent and believe

What does it mean to repent? - change your thinking

Why do we need to do this? - we have lots of opinions and many of them are wrong

What does it mean to believe? - to consider something true enough to act on it

Why does this matter? What we really believe impacts what we do.

New International Version (2011) Chapter 11

Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.

In this part of our passage it reflects back on prophets in the old testament. These prophets were acting differently living their faith in God boldly that brought on mockery, being ostrasized, imprisoned and sometimes even put to death.

I do not believe that here in Canada we would be put to death or imprisioned, but we could be mocked and even ostracized for our faith
