Primary Job—Glorify God

Our primary job as believers is to glorify God.
There are many reasons that this is first-none of which is God being a narcissistic ogre. But that is all for another video.
We can Glorify God Directly—through worship and prayer
Indirectly—How we treat others
our second most important task as believers in Christ is two part:

Develop Disciples

From within the church
from outside the church
the first we can call edifying the saints, equipping believers, deepening faith—you get the point.
the second we call outreach and service programs.

Equipping believers and doing outreach are not two independent tasks–they happen together. They are interwoven.

Philemon 1:6

“I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” -Philemon 1:6

Teaching and Doing

Matthew discourse: Narrative and Teaching

Jesus understood that more is caught than taught
That is why…

Parents: your life is you discipling your children–sure read the bible with your children, teach them by your words! But know that your daily life disciples them even more

Ex. guy who didnt want son following him

Churches: having discipleship classes are important-taech basics of the faith, the Bible, even apologetics; BUT providing volunteer opportunities is the other half of discipleship.

Ministries such as the many connected to iNDY Network offer opportunities for discipleship, the church can simply plug in to them and the practical side of discipleship can happen.

Example: Mrs. Strawberry in the Bronx
