had fun enjoyed
Last week, we finished our series on Psalm 119
Talk about how we can find peace
So it’s summer! now what
So it’s summer! now what
So I know we have been talking about the coming summer break for a long time!
I know i think about it too, finally no more school
So you work hard and then its here summer
IT’s great
Well, at least for me, when I was in high school
I would get to this point and then wonder, well, what now
I have so much free time
And if im honnest i would have these big ideas
And then they would somehow get swallowed up
And then a couple of weeks in, I would just feel like I didn’t do anything, like i wasted it
Can you guys relate?
Tonight I am going to give you guys some encouragement this summer on how you can make the most of it! By living intentionally in the season you are in
So let's turn to Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
Pray in
There is a time for everything if handled correctly
There is a time for everything if handled correctly
main idea tonight
I want you guys to have the best summer
but to do that we must understand that there is a time for everything if we do it well,
How do we do this we honor God in the season
What season are you in?
What season are you in?
summer duh
Ok, no no, let’s go deeper
we all our in uniqe seasons of our lives
maybe its a time of healing from v3 from deep pain
maybe it’s a time to plant, from v2 meaning you need to get to work on something
A time to mourn
a time to dance v4
what ever it is
But i bet that you had a dream over the school year that you wanted to do
maybe it was to hang out with freinds
summer camp
learn the guitar and join the worship team shameless plug
I want to let you guys know, that all of these things can be glorifying to God an act of worship
its a season, yes this season could be hanging out with freinds alot
working on a new skill
I hope i have gotten across to you guys that worshiping God in not just here
but that we can do it in our daily lifes, in how we enage with anything
So what we have have this summ er is porablly more time, and you proablly have an idea what you want to do with it
while anything as long as its not sin, can be honnoring
it all depends if you do it intentionally
look at this list again
there is no time for any sin, but most clearing i see is there is no time for sloth or laziness
there only time for internality
yes, all things things must done intentionally
even rest can be done intenionall
soooo
Make the most of the season
Make the most of the season
I think the biggest reason we don’t do this is we try to mix the season or parts of our lives together
what do i mean
For example lets say that i have writting a paper for school
but i wan’t something to enertain me, so i scroll for a little but and then write a little bit
we all know this makes evething take way longer
so what would take me an hour now takes me three
so now my time for leasure, which would have been two hours is now mix up with my work, and i’ve really lost it
So be inentional with you plans, make the most of your time
This is what Paul says on how we should use our time
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Prayer and walking in wisdom
Prayer and walking in wisdom
Ok what do we see in this passage first prayer in two ways
first thanksgiving
that’s right we should pray this summer with joy
joy enjoy the summer, give thanks
if you choose to be thankyfull in your prayer i promies that you will enjoy your summer more
but secondly this summer pray for opprotunies to share the gospel
Youth group is not a place with clossed doors
no together let’s share the gospel invite others to group
i bet if you feel like you have a lot of free time your freinds do too, so invite them here to youth group
so yes plan those fun game nights, have great times with your freinds,
nout pray for times to share the gospel with them, take that open door, invite them to youth
be proactive, have the time of your life
go do all the fun summer things enjoy it, but when you have in your mind hey i can use this time to connect with others and introduce them to Chirst, invite them to church you are making great use of your time
but too do this we need to walk in wisdom
know what the beest use of your time is
to be blunt it is not scrolling on your phone
it’;s proablly working on the hobby you love, reaind that book you allways wanted to, intentionlly hanging out with freainds and hosting others, so you can invite them to Church.
you are all in a uniqe season as we talked about above, so know which one you are in, but use your time this summer inetnioall utimatly to bring glory to God enjoying your time and sharing the the gospel
Take aways
Take aways
Glorify God by setting a goal to work on a passion
Glorify God by making plans with your non-Christians friends
Do both with the aim of glorify God
God gives you passions for a reason, so if you love sports, set a goal to imporove your batting avergae, or your three point shot
if you like art make a big goal to draw something new
make the best use of your time, this can bee in worhsip with God and as you go you will proablly meeting non Chirstians and share the gospel with them
Ok the second take away
i want each of you guys to be the proactive freind and plan things
it could be a game night, playing soccer what ever you are in too
with people you know who are non-Chirstians or someone who you no does not have much community
have so much fun with them, and yes use this as an opportunity to invite them to church or talk about faith with them
be proacite plan to do things
dont’t sit in your room by yourself all summer
its bad for yoour soul and it’s not the best use of your time
enjoy fellowship with other people and glorify GOd thorugh your passions
make the most of this summer
make the most of this summer
I want you guys to have the best summer, what’s a amazing blessing as a Chistians is that we are free to have great summers, because there is a season for all things
but to do this be inetional, woship GOd thorugh your hobbies and passions, but also make space in your life to plan things with non-Chirstians or people you know who do not have much community and ivite them into a realtionship with you, with us at youth rgoup, but utimatly with Chirst.
lets pray.
