Baptism of Samson Micah Hargrave
Baptism of Samson Micah Hargrave
This evening we celebrate the glorious sacrament of baptism. And we celebrate this for 2 reasons. First because it is the church fulfilling the great comission. We were told by our Lord and Saviour to go and make disciples. This evening we see a new disciple being made. This child will be taught all that Jesus has commanded and will be raised to follow the God if his parents.
The second reason we celebrate is because this is the proof of the promise that was given to the church in the great comission. Jesus said he will be with us always until the very end of the age. And today we see the proof that Jesus is still with and working through his people. The life given is held together by Christ, it was given by Christ, and any hope and future for this little one is only found in Christ. The Lord has not abandoned his people and see proof of this in the baptismal waters this evening,
Pastor: Do you bring this child to be baptized into the Christian faith?
Parents: We do
Pastor: Do you acknowledge your child’s need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, and the renewing Grace of the Holy Spirit?
Parent: We do
Pastor: Do you claim God’s covenant promises on his behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for his salvation, as you do for your own?
Parents: We do
Pastor: Do you now present this child to be baptized into the Christian Faith, and promise in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before them a godly example, that you will pray with him and for him, that you will teach him the doctrines of our holy faith, and that you will strive by all means of God’s appointment, to bring him up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?
Parents: We do
Pastor: And now you church, do you members of this congregation and also members of the Body of Christ outside of this local church, undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of this child?
Pastor: What is the name of this child?
Parents: [Name of Child]
Pastor: [Name of Child] I baptize you into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Little children, for you Jesus Christ has come, He has fought, He has suffered. For
you He entered into the shadows of Gethsemane and the terror of Calvary; for you
He uttered the cry “It is finished.” For you He rose from the dead and ascended
into heaven, and there for you He intercedes. Little children, even though you do
not know it, in this way the Word of the Gospel is made true, “We love Him
because He first loved us. (Scottish Book of Common Order)
