From Earth to Heaven: Embracing Our Commission

1. Questioning Our Kingdom Focus

Ac 1:6–7
You could explore the disciples' question about restoring the kingdom to Israel and Jesus’ response, which reframes their understanding of God’s plan versus human expectations. Emphasize how believers today might have similar misunderstandings about God’s timing and priorities. Encourage the congregation to trust in God’s timing and remain focused on the larger mission rather than getting bogged down in specifics that God has chosen not to reveal.

2. Empowered to be Witnesses

Ac 1:8
Perhaps you focus on Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit and the charge He gives to be witnesses locally and globally. Highlight how this verse represents the empowerment of believers through the Holy Spirit and our call to be witnesses. Suggest reflecting on how each person can embrace their personal mission field. It's an opportunity to discuss the power that God provides to His believers when stepping out in faith.

3. Ascension: Assurance and Action

Ac 1:9–11
Maybe delve into the significance of Jesus’ ascension and the promise of His return. Illustrate how the ascension signifies the beginning of our mission as His followers, assuring us of His ultimate return to fulfill God's plan completely. Encourage the congregation to live with a sense of urgency and purpose, knowing that our Savior will return. This point can challenge believers to live actively in anticipation of Christ’s return.
