How to Get a Job Fast

Principles

Work is good and glorifying to God. Gen. 2:15 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.”

Your work ethic in finding work is indicative of your work ethic when you get a job.

You are more employable if you have a job already.

So, rather than waiting for the perfect job, start working where you can.

This also allows you to start making money.

The idea that “I deserve a place to live and food to eat while I wait for my dream job,” is an immature and unbiblical perspective. 2 Thess. 3:10-11

2 Thessalonians 3:10–11 ESV

For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.

Several Myths about Getting a job

The “not enough to go around” Myth

Myth: “There just aren’t enough jobs.”

Truth: The possibilities of how you could earn money are basically unlimited. There is always more work to be done.

The “I’ve just got to wait” myth:

“Myth”: I’ve put out my applications to all the places I’ve been interested in, now I’m just waiting to hear back.

Truth: Job hunting is work. And the work isn’t over until you have a job. Don’t wait around.

The “Easy/Hard” Myth

Myth: “Job hunting should be easy, but it’s too hard.”

Truth: You need to have a sales mentality.

Everyone is in sales.

Whether you are selling cars, houses, something you make, a service you provide or your skillset to a company. So get out there.

If you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly.

Having too low of an idea of what it looks like to find a job.

Myth: “It is enough to just apply to a handful of my top places I’d like to work.”

Truth: You should apply to those top places. But don’t stop applying until you get a job.

The “Everything is online now” Myth

Myth: “The days of going in to speak to managers and fill out applications are over. “

Truth: You may need to fill out applications online, but managers and business owners are still looking for people who are personable and take the initiative to walk in and talk with them.

How to Get a Job

Until you get a job, your job is to find a job. So treat job hunting as if you are a self-emplyed businessman.

Set a 40 hour per week work schedule. (ex. 9-5, Mon-Fri).

Be dressed up and ready to go by then.

Pray and ask for God to provide you with the right job.

Go from one potential workspace to another.

Ask to speak with the manager.

Give a warm introduction and firm handshake.

Let them know you would be a great asset to their workplace.

Let them know you value their time and are ready to do an interview right then if it is convenient.

Leave them with a resume.

Application:

If they still have paper applications, fill it out and hand it back right then.

If they do online applications, let them know they can be expecting on by the end of the day.

Fill out online applications.

Follow up with workspaces in order of priority.

You should never be just waiting around.

As job offers come in, negotiate your wages.

Thank them for their offer, but suggest a higher wage.

You can use other offers as comparison. “Thank you, but I already got an offer at that amount. How about x dollars/hour?”
