Harvest time is ending and Boaz has not furthered his interest in Ruth
Ruth has been working in BOAZ’s feild
So Naomi helps things along a bit.......Naomi knows the responsibility of a close relative is in Israel
One day Naomi said to Ruth, “My daughter, it’s time that I found a permanent home for you, so that you will be provided for. Boaz is a close relative of ours, and he’s been very kind by letting you gather grain with his young women. Tonight he will be winnowing barley at the threshing floor. Now do as I tell you—take a bath and put on perfume and dress in your nicest clothes. Then go to the threshing floor, but don’t let Boaz see you until he has finished eating and drinking. Be sure to notice where he lies down; then go and uncover his feet and lie down there. He will tell you what to do.”

“If two brothers are living together on the same property and one of them dies without a son, his widow may not be married to anyone from outside the family. Instead, her husband’s brother should marry her and have intercourse with her to fulfill the duties of a brother-in-law. The first son she bears to him will be considered the son of the dead brother, so that his name will not be forgotten in Israel.
“But if the man refuses to marry his brother’s widow, she must go to the town gate and say to the elders assembled there, ‘My husband’s brother refuses to preserve his brother’s name in Israel—he refuses to fulfill the duties of a brother-in-law by marrying me.’ The elders of the town will then summon him and talk with him. If he still refuses and says, ‘I don’t want to marry her,’ the widow must walk over to him in the presence of the elders, pull his sandal from his foot, and spit in his face. Then she must declare, ‘This is what happens to a man who refuses to provide his brother with children.’ Ever afterward in Israel his family will be referred to as ‘the family of the man whose sandal was pulled off’!

Naomi knew what was her’s to ask for....
She was taking a great risk for her & Ruth
Boaz could have been insulted by the forwardness
Ruth could have been seen (prostitute)
Sometimes we have to wait on God
And sometimes we have to:
Do something
Step out from our safe little place
We need to be aware of what is ours in Christ
We need to be aware of what is ours in Christ
We are fishers of men Christ said
We need to be aware of what is ours in Christ
Then fishing is an action
What is rightfully ours
We need to be aware of what is ours in Christ
It requires action/strategy/effort
Scripture promises us a good future & to prosper
This requires possibly going to school
Those without faith won’t always come to faith
(career)
Taking a risk and trying something new
(doing the same thing over and expecting different results)
Having coffee with an estranged friend, son-daughter-relative
(prosperous relationships and peace)
Increasing your spiritual disciplines of prayer, study and fasting
(brings prosperous spiritual effectiveness and strength)
Jesus gives us a parable to illustrate determination and faith
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’ ”
Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”
What should we expect that is ours in Christ
What should we expect that is ours in Christ
Peace that passes all understanding
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Mind stayed on God will have peace
Action required - keeping our thoughts fixed on God
Wisdom
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
Wisdom
Action required - asking
Love, power and discipline
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
Love
Action - believing this to be true and not allowing fear to stop you from doing what you know you
should be doing
Here is what happened when Ruth uncovered Boaz’s feet
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,

Sometimes we have to:
Do something
Step out from our safe little place
The threshing floor was no place for a righteous woman
Here is what happened when Ruth uncovered Boaz’s feet
Around midnight Boaz suddenly woke up and turned over. He was surprised to find a woman lying at his feet! “Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she replied. “Spread the corner of your covering over me, for you are my family redeemer.” “The Lord bless you, my daughter!” Boaz exclaimed. “You are showing even more family loyalty now than you did before, for you have not gone after a younger man, whether rich or poor. Now don’t worry about a thing, my daughter. I will do what is necessary, for everyone in town knows you are a virtuous woman.
goes on to say
So Ruth lay at Boaz’s feet until the morning, but she got up before it was light enough for people to recognize each other. For Boaz had said, “No one must know that a woman was here at the threshing floor.”
Boaz was protecting Ruth because Ruth was innocent and obedient to Naomi
If you suffer because of obeying God
God will be your defender and protector
The Rest of the Story
Boaz buys back Naomi’s dead husband’s lands
(kindmen-redeemer)
And agrees to fulfill the custom of levirate marriage and takes Ruth to be his wife
How does this reflect what the messiah Jesus would one day do for all of humanity?
We have not been given a spirit of fear and timidity
How does this reflect what the messiah Jesus would one day do for all of humanity?
Our father Adam sold us into bondage and sin;
Our father Adam sold us into bondage and sin;
Life left Naomi without support or help
Noami and Ruth came from a foreign land (MOAB)
Noami and Ruth came from a foreign land (MOAB)
We wonder away from God into our foreign lands of behavior
Prodigal son
Ruth and Naomi came home to Israel broken and bitter
We often come to Christ broken by life and in need of hope
Ruth risked shame and humiliation by laying herself at the feet of BOAZ
We have to come to Christ regardless of the cost…humility
Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
Boaz pays the price to redeem them
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Brothers and sisters, let me take an example from everyday life. Just as no one can set aside or add to a human covenant that has been duly established, so it is in this case.
Their lives are turned around
Galatians 3:13-15
What was lost to them ( land-security-children) was returned to them
The land belonging to Naomi’s husband came back to her
Naomi lost two sons and a son was given back to her ( through Ruth)
Ruth lost a husband and one was given back to her (boaz)
The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you. Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the Lord your God, who does these miracles for you. Never again will my people be disgraced.
God will restore all that a life of mistakes, hurt and rebellion have stolen
And they became a blessing because they are the grandparents of King David
Ruth and Boaz became a blessing because they are the grandparents of King David
We are meant to be a blessing to the world we live in.
Forgiveness of sins and a personal relationship with God
Bring Hope for people who have lost theirs
Love that does not depend on feelings
Faith that you will never be alone in life and it can get better
