Fulfilling Righteousness and Granting Righteousness

Big Idea: Jesus fulfills all righteousness in order to credit righteousness to all those who by faith repent and believe.

  • Jesus affirms the sufficiency of scripture.
    • Jesus affirmed the inspiration, inerrancy, infallibility, and authority of the Old Testament.
    • You cannot accurately affirm the sufficiency of Christ without affirming the authority of scripture.
  • Jesus delivers a complete salvation. V.18
    • Jesus fulfills the Law.
    • Jesus fulfills prophecy.
  • Doctrine determines discipleship. V19
    • Imperfect doctrine does not forfeit a complete salvation.
    • Delighting in doctrine (hearing and doing) determines discipleship.
  • Righteousness must be a gift that is received because it is not a wage that is earned.
    • The sin of unbelievers exceeds their own righteousness.
    • Based upon the Cross and the Empty Tomb, only the sinlessness and sufficiency of Jesus is greater than all my sin.
