Colossians 1:27-29, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22
Colossians 1:27-29, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God,
who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
The anointing - Old Testament anointing - prophets, priests, kings
Tabernacle anointing
To be set apart to be used for God and by God for His purpose
Everything in the Old Testament was anointed before it could be activated and used
New Testament - The fullness of the anointing of the Holy Spirit is manifested principally, primarily, and most powerfully in the person of Jesus Christ.
There is no other person who has ever carried a greater anointing than Jesus Christ. There was none like him before, during his life, or since. There is only one Jesus Christ.
Christ is not Jesus’s last name. Christ is an appropriated title given to Jesus because He met the requirements necessary to be called Christ.
Christ is not found in the Old Testament. The meaning is found in the word Messiah. All of the Old Testament prophets foretold of the coming Messiah who would come to deliver Israel from their sin and from the power of the enemy.
The word Christ is used over 550 times to describe the title given to Jesus.
Christ - Greek word “Xristos” which is the translation of the Hebrew word “Meshiach” - comes from Hebrew root word “Mashach” - to anoint, smear, or rub with oil
Jesus “The Messiah” - the one who has been rubbed, smeared, and given the oil of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was not King in title only. He was called King and Christ because the oil was on him that qualified him to be called the Messiah. He had to receive the oil of God to be called the Messiah of God.
Titles without oil
You may carry a title but is the oil on you to carry the title
call yourself Christian - not word only - need the oil of the Christ in you
What does the Bible say about the oil on Jesus?
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”
David was anointed, Elijah was anointed, Ezekiel was anointed but none were anointed on the level Jesus was anointed. That is why he was the only one qualified to be called the Christ.
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Jesus needed the Holy Ghost. Jesus needed the power of God. The Holy Spirit is not just another option to add to your religion. If Jesus needed the Holy Ghost, you need the Holy Ghost.
Today, we do not need religion and churches and people who call themselves Christians who don’t carry any oil. We need people who walk around and their whole lives are dripping with the oil and the power of God.
People are in bondage. They are in addictions. They are trapped in lifestyles that are an abomination to God. They do not need some fancy preacher in a suit and tie just filling them full of information. They need the people of God walking around covered in the oil of God, operating in the power of God to set them free.
It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
The oil in the Bible always represents the Holy Spirit. If people are going to be set free from bondage today, it is only going to be if the people of God carry the oil of God on their lives.
Everyone wanted to know if Jesus was the Christ. John the Baptist asked “Are you the Christ or do we need to look for another?” The crowd kept asking “Are you the Christ?”
The angels didn’t question it. “Unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
Before he ever preached his first sermon or healed his first leper, He was called the Christ, the Anointed One, the King of Glory.
People today question if Jesus is the King and the Christ.
Peter didn’t question it: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”
The woman at the well knows who He is. She ran back to the men in the town and said, “Let me tell you about a man who told me everything I have ever done. Is this not the Christ?”
The devil and his demons do not question if He is the Christ.
And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of God!” And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.
The world may question and doubt if he is the Christ. But for us who have tasted and seen, there is no doubt about who He is. He is the Christ!!!! He is the one who was anointed with the oil of the Holy Spirit.
We anoint with oil. It is symbolic of what we believe is happening spiritually.
James said, are there any sick among you?
Jesus is the anointed one. He is living in you!!!!
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus. And He is living inside of you!!!
Christ in you - the hope of glory.
What happens at church on Sunday does not replace your responsibility of carrying Christ in you every day.
CHRISTIAN - Acts 13 in Antioch - derogatory term to mock and make fun of those who followed Jesus.
Christian - “little Christ” - not a god, not Jesus. You are not a big god or little god. There is only one God. There was only one Jesus. You are not Jesus.
C.S. Lewis: “Every Christian is to become a little Christ. The whole purpose of becoming a Christian is simply nothing less.”
“Chips off the old block”
We have permitted our carnality and disconnected from our responsibility to be the body of Christ in the world.
Get saved and sit on pews. We are not called to sit and let the preacher win the world and let a worship team do our worship for us.
We are living with Jesus in us and the world needs to see Jesus in you not just in the preacher or worship leader.
The hope of the world is living inside of you!!!!
Born again - Christian - Christ is in you. not a Christian because you go to church, fulfill a religious obligation, pay tithes, sing in a choir. You are only a Christian if you have truly been born again. It may be the popular thing to do now for everyone just to say, “I am a Christian” as to align themselves with some religion.
But you can never truly be Christian until you have first been born again.
We are Christian because we have been changed. Jesus Christ came to live inside of me and I have been made a new creation. Old things have passed away and behold, all things are made new.
Before you came to Christ, you were being led by the spirit of this age, trapped in the bondage of darkness. But when you repented and confessed Jesus as Lord, He wrote your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. He lives in you!!!
There is something about you that is different from those who have not been born again.
There are only two classes - born again and not born again, saved or lost.
Stop all the division in the church! Stop trying to put us into camps and being tribal about everything that goes on in the church. All that matters is are you saved or not!!!!
You should not have to wear a t-shirt that says you are saved. Your life should say it louder than any shirt.
Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
Your life should smell like Jesus!!!!
Jesus Christ, the one who was anointed with the oil of God did not just go back to heaven to leave you here to figure this out on your own. He sent His Holy Spirit down and He lives on the inside of you.
You can declare, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I am the head and not the tail. I am above and not beneath. I am blessed when I go out and blessed when I come in. I am saved, healed, set free, and anointed by God.”
The world around us should benefit from the Christ in us.
People say, “You remind me so much of your daddy.” You know why? Because I came from him.
Who did you come from?
If You are born of Jesus, you should remind people of Jesus!!!! If you come from Jesus, your life should look like you come from him!!
Christ-ian - “Little Christ”
Something about your life should tell people, “He or she knows Jesus.”
Colossians 1:27 “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
The plan of God to save the world is for the people of God to operate in their anointing. The only hope of glory for this world is Christ in you.
For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.
Jesus did not receive a measure of the Spirit. Jesus had the Holy Spirit without measure. He was unlimitedly anointed.
He could only be in one place at one time.
Ascension
But when the body of Jesus ascended to the Father, the body of Christ was released to go out to the world.
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
We each have a measure of faith, a measure of the anointing. When we operate together in our measure of anointing, we can then do the ministry that Jesus did in the earth.
It takes us all operating together in the anointing that each of us has.
We each need to get our own oil. “5 foolish and 5 wise virgins”
You cannot rely on someone else’s oil. My grandfather carried an anointing to preach the gospel. My dad walked in an anointing to preach the Word.
I cannot rely on their oil to be my source of light. I have to carry my own oil!!!!
You have been anointed by God.
The anointing can be increased, it can be grown in, it can be lost if not stewarded properly.
The anointing is not just for the preacher or the pastor or the worship leader. The anointing is for anyone who has their life hidden in Christ.
2 Kings 9 - Anointing of Jehu - dripped off of him - What happened to you?
Psalm 133:2 “It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments.”
When God pours the Holy Ghost on your life, stop trying to hide it when you are out in the world. You cannot hide the Christ in you. Let the Lion roar!!!
Fried Chicken in old oil.
We need a fresh anointing for today. We cannot live in yesterday’s anointing.
God is a good God who wants to give you a fresh anointing for the season you are in today. Different seasons and different places and roles in life call for a different anointing. You need the anointing to match where He has you
