Skeptics that believe that you cannot know anything for certain at least certainly believe their statement!
Messianic Expectation

Messianic Expectation
Simeon is traditionally portrayed as a very old man who died in peace soon thereafter, although nothing is actually known about him or Anna other than what is told in Luke’s Gospel; the idea that he was old is enhanced by the statement that Anna was very old and that Simeon was apparently awaiting death. - R.R. Losch
The New Revised Standard Version Jesus Is Presented in the Temple
26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.
My only hope is you Jesus, my only hope is you. From early in the morning, till late at night, my only hope is you.
English Standard Version Chapter 2
38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
Simeon & Anna- God rewards them old people!
There were many who were looking and they knew what they were looking for
Today people are looking, they want to believe in something, but they don’t know what they are looking for, and they don’t know what to believe in.
We have found the Messiah!- John 1
Andrew- vs. 40-41
Philip vs. 45-46
Nathaniel vs. 46-49
The Samaritan Woman- John 4
& The Gentile woman
& The Gentile woman
Jesus’ delay is not atypical
Raising of Jarius’ daughter
The man lowered through the roof of the house
Jesus waited two extra days before leaving to see Lazarus
This woman’s daughter
The New King James Version Chapter 15
26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
Why did Jesus respond this way? Dog was a derogatory term for either someone of lower class or a reference to a Gentile
Could be testing her faith
Could be something He wanted His disciples to see and learn from
Remember He went to Tyre and Sidon- Gentile country, about as far north and west as we have Him recorded as going. He crossed the line— enemy territory- this was intentional.
When I see her response and remember that she is bearing the horror of having a demon possessed child and a feeling of helplessness. Her response reminds me of how some of our own members who sit near the front have handled one bad event after another in the past year.- But even the dogs get the crumb’s from their master’s table. What an amazing example of cheerfulness and hope.
You speak of signs and wonders
I need something other
I would believe if I was able
But I'm waiting on the crumbs from your table - U2
Conclusions:
Tell people about the Messianic hope
People are hungry and thirsty and want to believe and hope in something
Tell them about Jesus- they have come to your table. Will you share with them the crumbs of your knowledge and your faith?
