Sermon Discussion Questions: June 7, 2026 Understanding the Wrath of God Call to Worship: Jeremiah 9:23-25 1. But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me… How do we acknowledge our talents and virtues (Or should we?) without engaging in either false modesty or bragging? 2. What is the meaning of “uncircumcised in heart”? How do we avoid that situation? Sermon: Romans 1:18-32 I. The Origin of God’s Wrath 1. Physicists believe that the universe is running down, and that all physical and chemical reactions result some decrease in order and organization. What would be the logical assumption regarding the original state of the universe? 2. From the first half of verse 18, what do we know about wrath? 3. How does divine wrath differ from human wrath? 4. Pastor Rich mentioned two general categories of sin: Doing something God forbids is the first category. What is the second? II. The Object of God’s Wrath 5. Pastor Rich mentioned the three most common ways that secular scientists, regarding creation, deny the glory of the incorruptible God. State them and, if you disagree, briefly explain why. a. The Big ______________ b. No need for a ________ cause. c. (Scientific word for life from inanimate matter.) 6. Our sin nature will replace glorifying God with self ________________. III. The Outpouring of God’s Wrath 7. Worshiping and serving the creature rather than the Creator (Verse 24) sounds profoundly foolish when we read of it in Romans. Yet we are all susceptible to it. How do we avoid this sin? 8. In what sense does God give people up to uncleanness? 9. In Revelation, we see that God's judgment only hardens the hearts of those rebelling against him. Where else in scripture do we see the same phenomenon? 10. Don't need reason, don't need rhyme / Ain't nothin' I'd rather do / Goin' down, party time / My friends are gonna be there too, yeah / I'm on the highway to hell (Lyrics to “Highway to Hell”) These lyrics express a common belief among the unsaved: They will enjoy the companionship of their friends in hell. How would you respond to someone who expressed that belief? 11. AI Question 🤖: What area of your life—habits, media, relationships, priorities—most tempts you to “exchange the truth of God for a lie,” and how will you realign that area with God’s truth? Prayer Points: • Thank God for His holy and righteous wrath, by which all evil and injustice will be punished in full. Thank God also for Jesus Christ, who willingly took God’s wrath for your sins. • Confess any clinging resentments or desires for revenge for the wrongs you have suffered, and entrust them to the Shepherd and Overseer of your soul. • Remember that only God knows when a person has irrevocably rejected Him and sold themselves out to sin. Pray earnestly for people you know who appear to be without hope, that the Holy Spirit will draw them to repentance and faith.
