Ephesians Series – Week 5

“Part of the Plan”

Text: Ephesians 3:1–13

Big Idea

God didn't save you merely to bless you—He saved you to make you part of His mission.

Introduction

"Have you ever been left out of a surprise or a secret?"
Everybody likes being included in something important.
In Ephesians 3, Paul reveals a mystery that had been hidden for generations.
The mystery?
God's plan was always bigger than Israel.
God's plan was always bigger than one nation.
God's plan was always to bring people from every tribe, tongue, and nation together through Jesus.
And amazingly—
you are part of that plan.

Point 1: God's Plan Was Bigger Than Anyone Realized (v.1–6)

Truth

God's mystery has now been revealed.
"The Gentiles are fellow heirs..."

Explain

For centuries people knew God would send a Messiah.
What they didn't fully understand was:
Jews and Gentiles would be one family
Salvation would be available to all
The church would display God's glory

Transition

The mystery isn't hidden anymore.
Now it must be proclaimed.

Application

Don't treat Christianity like a private club.
God's plan has always included reaching others.

Youth Angle

It's easy to think:
"Church is for people like me."
Paul says:
The Gospel is for everyone.

Point 2: God Uses Ordinary People (v.7–8)

Truth

Paul never got over God's grace.
"Though I am the very least..."

Explain

Paul understood:
who he was before Christ
what Christ had done for him
Because of that, he lived with humility.

Illustration

The most effective Christians aren't usually the most talented.
They're the people who never stop being amazed by grace.

Transition

God doesn't call perfect people.
He transforms ordinary people.

Application

Stop saying:
"I'm too young."
"I'm not talented."
"Someone else can do it."
God uses willing people.

Point 3: The Church Displays God's Wisdom (v.9–10)

Truth

The church is God's showcase to the world.
"So that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known..."

Explain

The church is not:
a building
an event
a program
The church is God's people displaying His glory.

Transition

When the church loves, serves, forgives, and worships together—
people see Jesus.

Application

Your participation matters.
Your attitude matters.
Your testimony matters.

Youth Angle

Students often think:
"I'm just a teenager."
Yet God uses young believers to display His wisdom.

Point 4: Don't Lose Heart (v.11–13)

Truth

God is still working even when life is difficult.
Paul writes this while imprisoned.
Yet he isn't discouraged.
Why?
Because he knows God is accomplishing His plan.

Explain

Circumstances do not determine God's faithfulness.

Illustration

A construction site looks messy while the building is being built.
God often works the same way.

Transition

You may not understand everything God is doing—
but you can trust Him.

Application

Don't quit when life gets hard.
Don't abandon your faith when circumstances change.
Trust God's bigger plan.

Conclusion

God's Plan Includes:

Revealing His Gospel
Reaching all people
Using ordinary believers
Building His church
Displaying His glory

Final Challenge

Stop asking,
"What is God's plan for me?"
and start asking,
"How can I be part of God's plan?"

Closing Illustration

Imagine being handed a single puzzle piece.
By itself it doesn't seem significant.
But when placed in the Master's hands, it becomes part of a much bigger picture.
That's your life.
You may not see the whole picture—
but God does.
And He has intentionally placed you in His plan.
