Matthew 6:9–13 CSB
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Test
We have rule in our house, it’s a rule I created. And it goes like this - everything in the house belongs to me. It just does. Everything belongs to me. It can belong to my kids too, but it belongs ultimatly to me. Toys. I don’t play with toys, I don’t with stuffed, but they all belong to me.
I provide it, it’s mine. SO, for example, because some of them have cell phones that they bought with money that they earned by working. I had to let them know, thank you for buying me a cell phone.
Is that it’s all mine but I provide.
[Everything BELONGS to God and He provides]

Matthew 6:9–11 CSB
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread.
Father - knows we are dust
Name - relational closeness doesn’t erase honor
We live by faith but we operate on a budget
but the temptation is to think that because we know where money comes from - having job, we know where food comes from - grocery store and farms, that because of that, we don’t need God’s hand to help.
[NATURE is not independent of God]
the supernatural is working through the natural for our provision.
Psalm 147:7–9 CSB
7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; play the lyre to our God, 8 who covers the sky with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, and causes grass to grow on the hills. 9 He provides the animals with their food, and the young ravens what they cry for.
He is not denying that God uses nature in order to accomplish tasks but that
God uses nature, it is not independent of God
IF we think that everything is just supernatural - then that Grass just grows
If everything is natural - the rain makes the grass grow. There’s no God in it, no need to pray no need to praise God.
God uses nature to get things done. even though he’s working through natural means.
It’s important because of we face life- the most needs that we feel are oftentimes the practical. And we can make them all supernatural - God’s going to provide so I don’t really have to work, or do anything. It’s all God.
All Natural - it’s all on me. WE feel stressed, the pressure of life, its all on me and it has nothign to do with God at all really.
Because of that, everything we have, is a gift from God.
And it’s his universal ownership of everything that gives us confidence to pray for our daily bread.
[He owns everything - so he has the ABILITY to provide]
And he is your father so he wants to provide
{ABC’s of repentance}
So he’s our father
He knows what we need and he cares about our needs
[Because he’s your FATHER he wants to provide]
So praying for our needs to be met is trusting that God is in control of nature but also that
Matthew 6:31–32 CSB
31 So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Do you need food and money for food - yes
do you need clothes and money for clothes - yes
do you need a home and money for your home - yes
do you need a car and money for your car- yes
God cares about these things. He knows that you need them.
Here’s the deal, God promises to provide, not just enough for your needs but more than your needs
[He promises to give MORE than you need]
2 Corinthians 9:8–11 CSB
8 And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work. 9 As it is written: He distributed freely; he gave to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. 10 Now the one who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will also provide and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way for all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us.
Not everyone is going to be equally rich, or equally prosperous - but the expectation is that we will have our needs provided with enough to be generous.
So here’s the idea, everything belongs to God, he will provide but he won’t just provide what you need, he’ll also provide enough for you to be generous - the tithe
But why don’t experience this flourishing all the time?
Difficult financial time - WIC
There’s really I think two reasons why we don’t always experience that.
First, there is just disobedience. There are times where our lives are more motivated by the world than the kingdom.
[We might be asking with the wrong MOTIVES]
Now, the first thing is to remember what we said last week, that prayer is a wartime walkie talkie.
James 4:3 CSB
3 You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Our prayers and our lives are bound up together they are connected.
Here’s the point, if you are living your life for yourself and constantly
Sometimes the waiting matters - but we give up.
[Sometimes we just GIVE UP praying]
Luke 18:1 CSB
1 Now he told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not give up.
Persistent widow
Sometimes God gives us seasons of difficulty to teach us to depend upon him.
Our lives are sometimes like those connect the dots, but we can’t connect all the dots. We need God.
Numbers 20:2 CSB
2 There was no water for the community, so they assembled against Moses and Aaron.
This is not frivolous this is a real ned
Numbers 20:13 CSB
13 These are the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the Lord, and he demonstrated his holiness to them.
Listen if they never went through a period without water - they never would have known God can provide water.
If they never went through a period without food they never would have known that God can provide food.
[God wants to teach you that He can be TRUSTED.]
You can trust him with your soul, you can trust him with your daily needs. You can trust him. He wants to be
Look, here’s the deal, I don’t know what each of you are going through. I know some of it but not all of it. And I pray for you regularly, and my prayer is that God would not just provide but bless you. But here’s the promise, it’s because he owns everything, and it’s because he is your father, that he can be trusted to provide. That’s why we can go to him and pray and expect his blessing.
As part of the church you should know that as part of our budget, Care Team
Pray for Mercy Hill - The goal is to be a people who pray.
that we grow in our giving and God provides for our needs, pray for the building.
Land - let’s be praying for that
We need money and we need people
we want to accomplish things that only God can accomplish
[Ministry gets FUN when we start to see God connect the dots]
Ministry gets really fun when we start to attempt things where we can’t connect the dots, we can’t make it happen on our own but we start to see God connecting the dots
That we would be a church where the people pray
EM Bounds
{“The Church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men…
…What the Church needs to-day is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Ghost can use--men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. The Holy Ghost does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men--men of prayer.” E.M. Bound}
[He calls us to be people who are live for his kingdom, DEPENDING on his power.]
That he doesn’t just meet our needs but he gives us enough to then be generous.
More money so that we can give more money, we want more people, so that we can send out more people.
Let’s go to God and ask him to gives us today our daily bread, together.

Lord’s Supper:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy
Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontus Pilate, was
crucified dead and buried;
He descended into hell. The third day He rose
again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right
hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there He will come to judge the
living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic
(universal) church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Benediction:

The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD makes his face shine upon you and be gracious to you:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
