Christ, the True and Better Moses (Hebrews 8)

Adam showed us that we needed a better Adam to reverse the curse of sin

Isaac showed us that we needed God to provide Himself a lamb for sacrifice

Moses shows us that we need God to be a mediator of a better covenant

The Leader Home (vv. 9-10)

Moses was used by God to lead Israel to the promised land -> a clear picture of our deliverance from sin (Egypt) and journey home

While Moses was a faithful man of God, his leadership was limited by his ability

He lead imperfect people, unable to make them perfect

They grumbled over every inconvenience, doubted everything, exercised idolatry, lost faith constantly, and rejected God

Moses’ leadership brought them to a promised land that was still inhabited

He was also imperfect, disqualifying himself from entering the land

He doubted his calling, murdered, and most importantly struck the rock when God commanded he speak to it

Jesus is a better Moses, which results in far better leadership

Jesus leads imperfect people, but He makes them perfect (Jude 24-25)

Jesus will lead His people to a promised land prepared for us without conflict or strife (Heb. 4:1-11)

Jesus is perfect, and not only will He be in that land of promise, but He will rule over it forevermore as the center of it!

This is not to be disparaging of Moses, but rather to simply show that Christ did what Moses couldn’t do in His leadership

It is Christ and the new covenant that we daily follow

Parting Death’s Waters

The parting of the Red Sea is something that is constantly revisited by God’s people throughout the OT, and rightly so!

It is perhaps the greatest shadow of salvation that there is

Where there was an impossible conflict, fully surrounded by death, the Lord made a way -> that way is Christ Himself

Fulfillment of the Old and Mediator of the New

Jesus is the fulfillment of the old covenant and the mediator of the new (v. 6)

Which Moses could not do (failed intercession of Moses - Deut. 32:30-35)

The covenant that Jesus established is founded on the works of Christ and the grace of God (vv. 8-13)

This was made evident when Jesus tore the veil from top to bottom -> from heaven to earth, the true and better Moses has made a way for sinful man to approach a holy God
