The lost for gaining Christ

Main Point: Our main confidence is not on the flesh but on the Spirit of God. Compared to what we have in Christ those things are rubbish.

Introduction: What are our current goals in life?

> New business? Nice house? Succesful Career? Children?

> Is Jesus a means to an end for these dreams and promises for you?

> To follow Jesus, is to lose, are we willing to lose in order to gain Christ?

Paul warns the Philippian church of “dogs”

> v2 these are Judiazers bringing false doctrine into the church about Jewish Law similar to the Galatian church relating righteousness to circumcission

> To the Christian our confidence is in Jesus through His Spirit, our hope is not on what we do but on what He has done.

Achievements are not the end goal of worship, Christ is.

> Paul lays out His achievements from v5-6 of all people he should be the one boasting with what he has but he understood the truth of his sin infront of a holy god.

> Emptiness is what awaits us down the line of a life chasing after goals, God is not a bridge to our destination, Jesus is the destination.

> May all our accomplishments, and our success be an offering to the feet of the one worthy of it all, Jesus!

Loss is a part of the Christian life, to follow Jesus is to lose your life.

> One of the most repeated words in v7-8 is loss

> As we follow Jesus we lose alot of things, we lose pride when we ask for forgiveness, and repent. We lose our dreams when God calls us into ministry. We lose our finances when He calls us to advance His kingdom.

> But what we gain is Him, to be like Him! To be humble, to be selfless, to be faithful, to be like Jesus! We lose our sinful self to be like Christ

>v9 talks about the righteousness we gain in Him, what we have in Him is far greater than anything this world can offer.

What we have is so much more than what we lose.

> We have eternal life in Christ,we will rule and reign with Him in eternity.

> The end goal is heaven. Not just a temporary spot here on earth but heaven. Eternity is in Christ, Jesus is the prize.

Conclusion: The world will convince us to leave what we have in Christ, Christian what you have is far greater than what this world can ever offer. In Christ you have already won.
