Saul's Unlawful Sacrifice

1 Samuel 13:8-14

1 Samuel 10:8(Saul was told to wait. Why?)

Three key reasons

It violated Mosaic Law

Numbers 3:5-10

There were major consequences to doing this improperly(Lev 10:1-3, 2 Sam 6:6-7)

It showed a spiritual problem of mistrust

He was told something by God through Samuel and didn’t trust it.

It wasn’t about sacrifice

Samuel makes it a point that, “To obey is better than to sacrifice”

Micah 6:6-8

What was the result of Saul’s actions?

He lost the chance of an established kingdom

He gets filled with jealousy

Tries to kill David on several occasions

Uses a medium to talk with Samuel beyond the grave.

Had his line cut off

How do we avoid the same mistake as Saul?

Fundamentally his biggest problem was not obeying God. We have the Bible, Wisdom, and the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Most importantly you have to want it. David shows the great contrast of Saul, that David was a man after God’s own heart, even in his failures David sought to serve the Lord. Saul spiraled downward into constant problems, because he chased after his own glory not God’s.
