But Micaiah said, “If you actually return safely, the Lord has not spoken by me.” And he said, “Listen, all you people!”

The Group Method

General S.L.A. Marshall discovered that men interviewed immediately after battle are in such a state of shock that they can tell only the truth; officially it is called Group Method.

General Marshall says that the average man cannot lie in the presence of comrades who would contradict him if he were telling an untruth; haunted by the memory of the recent dead, he will not lie. Whether this completely accurate may be open to question.

We do know, however, that when the Lord arrays the lost before Him at the judgment of the great white throne. “Every mouth will be stopped and all the world will be brought guilty before God,” and all the judgment of God will be according to truth. The only way out is to come to Christ who is the truth.

In the text before us is the story of King Ahab of the Northern Kingdom (Israel), planning to recapture and reclaim the territory of Ramoth-Gilead. He has enlisted the help of King of Judah, who agreed, but required a word of confirmation from the Lord. Ahab produced 400 of his prophets who all said the same thing. Jehosaphat, however, was not content with these and inquired: 1 Kings 22: 7

“Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of him?”

Ahab answered him, yes, there is one, but I hate him because he never tells me what I want to hear. Jehosaphat said “don’t say that” and Ahab sent and called for Micaiah. While they were on their way to the Kings, the messenger said to Micaiah, “Don’t make waves, just go with the flow.”
