Touched By The Master

Intro:

There is a Southern Gospel song that is somewhat old, somewhat new entitled: “Touch of the Master’s Hand”.

The song recounts the story of an auction.

Everything is gone and the auction is almost over.

There is just one item left that hasn’t been auctioned,

An old, worn out, beaten violin.

The Auctioneer holds up that violin and attempts to get the people to bid, asking for $1, then $2, then $3….

When no one says a word the auctioneer lays down the violin.

A man from the back of the room walks forward, pick up the violin and the bow and begins to play a beautiful song.

When he has finished with his song he lays the violin back down and goes back to his seat.

The Auctioneer picks up the violin and the bow and then begins, once against attempting to get bids, but this time he begins asking for $1,000, then $2,000, then $3,000…..

The crowd is confused and said, “What made the change, we don’t understand?”

To which the auctioneer replies, “It was the touch of the Master’s Hand.”

The value of an item is largely dependent upon who holds it.

You’ve probably heard of celebrities who have passed away or are no longer active in whatever they were known for and an auction of some sort will be held for their belongings.

Things that otherwise would be thrown in the trash or willfully donated to a second-hand store are sold for hundreds, thousands, even millions of dollars.

You’ve heard the expression, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

If you don’t believe that to be true, once a year around Memorial Day here in Southeast Missouri we have the most irritating thing called the 100 Mile Yard Sale.

All of highway 25 will be filled with cars full of irritating people who travel hundreds of miles to dig through someone else’s junk.

It is:

Clutter,

Broken toys,

Used and abused furniture,

Old clothes

Smelly shoes,

and dust covered knick knacks.

IT’S JUNK!

But to the right person, that junk is a masterpiece.
