Funeral for John Cameron

On behalf of the family, Thank you for joining us as we celebrate the life of John Cameron.

These types of days are not something we look forward to. This is not something where people wake up and say I can’t wait to go to a funeral today.

These days are what it means to be human. To live in a sinful world. In order for us to be in Heaven one day, must mean that at some point we must leave this world.

I only knew John for about a year when Him and Mrs. Glenda starting coming to church. We always had good conversations before church, and one of Johns frustrations was his health would not allow him and Mrs. Glenda to be more involved in church. Conversations would usually come to what they wanted to do but weren’t able to because of his health. They became members of the church not long after visiting. According to Mrs. Glenda, the church was home. Which is something for me being the Associate Pastor there, I love to here.

Bro. John passed away this past Wednesday night around 11 in his home.

Bro. John has had a church home and a family home, but today he is in his heavenly home.

2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV

We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

I was able to visit Mrs. Glenda and John the day hospice was called in. Mrs. Betty was there as well. At that point John was under medication and just slept the whole time. We talked for around an hour and prayed together. Mrs. Glenda’s statement was, He was such a good man. His testimony was that he loved the Lord and loved his family.

I can’t help but think as he was sleeping and then on Wednesday night when he passed, that the next time he opened his eyes, he was in the presence of Jesus. The hurting was gone. The sickness was gone and he was in heaven.

While today we are sad and grieving and there will be more to come, we also believe that if we have trusted in the Lord and given our lives to Jesus like John did then we will see him again.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 NLT

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.

The Bible mentions heaven almost 700 times

We believe in a real heaven and a real hell.

John 11:25–26 CSB

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. You know the way to where I am going.” “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

We believe in a real heaven because we believe in a real Jesus and the only way to get to heaven is by Him and because of Him.

John 3:16 ESV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

We believe that for the one who puts their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Not even death from this world can stop Gods love.

God’s love continues towards us in death and how much He loves us is proven by Heaven itself.

Romans 8:38–39 CSB

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I believe I can speak for John that he would say if you don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus that there is no better time to do so than my own funeral.

Today we celebrate the Life that was lived by John Cameron, but we also are thankful for what Jesus meant to John.

In the coming days, especially for the family, their may be questions of why now. There will be good days to come and hard days to come. Grieving and missing John will take place, but I want to encourage you to keep trusting in Christ. Keep you life focused on Him.
