faith is defined in Romans
For in hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what he already sees?
But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we eagerly wait for it.
something God has promised will happen
faith is putting our trust in Jesus to give us eternal life
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Faith sees and holds on to with their spiritual eyes the promise of God. we are able to focus and claim the future. beyond the sphere of intellect.
all of these people did something extraordinary by faith
God revealed something to these people
God promised something in the future
last week we saw the parents of Moses keep him alive even though Pharaoh had ordered all baby boys killed
because of faith that they had in this boy being someone special that God would use
so what did Moses have faith about
V 24 - by faith Moses
we know that God spoke to Abraham when He was still in the Ur
we know God spoke to Jacob telling him to go to Egypt
we know that God spoke to Moses in the burning bush
Abraham was given the gospel by God
And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.”
this why he was looking for this city made by God
when Moses was very young he lived with his parents until he was weaned
then he moved into the palace
he lived there until he was 40
he recieved no Godly instructions from his teachers or parents
so by faith V 24 -25
how? why? did he even know who he was
why would he choose to be identified with a slave people when he had the world

there were 2 young women who became Christians, why
Why be Identified with the class of people the rest of the population hates and wants to destroy?
it’s because this is what happened to them
God Chose them to be a Bride for His Son Jesus. We know that Jesus came to earth as a baby to grow up to be the savior of His people
He died on the cross to give His life as a substitute for His bride. To purchase her with His blood. And redeem her from slavery of sin.
The Holy Spirit made us to be born from above. Because of this our will changed from hating God and the light to embracing God and the light.
We were given faith and repentance to turn from self to God believing in the Lord Jesus.
The Father brought us into His courtroom and judged us and found no sin in us so He declared us not guilty
This is because Jesus took our sin upon himself on the cross. And then He transferred His righteousness upon us. So that when the Father judged us all He saw was the righteousness of Jesus.
and because of this, they now want to be associated with other believers
they now walk in the good works that God has put before them
They are no longer a slave of sin but a slave of righteousness
Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him as righteousness
He was given the gospel
so back to V 24-25
at some point and time while he was still at the palace he recieved the gospel of the Messiah
and By Faith he left the palace for slave clothes
left the life of luxury to be a pauper
left the selfishness of sin for righteousness
It looks to me like Moses is now saved
born again, has faith and repentance
but how? who has he learned from?
scholars want to say that his mother taught him as a baby
I’m sure she did but does he remember at 40 what he learned a 1-2?
I don’t know how but someway Moses learned about the Messiah
V 26
He has been taught the gospel probably by God at some time that he was living in the palace
Regarding the suffering that Jesus went through
Moses knew all this somehow
Moses by faith saw what Jesus had to offer was exceedingly richer than anything Pharaoh could offer
Faith sees and holds on to with their spiritual eyes the promise of God. we are able to focus and claim the future. beyond the sphere of intellect.
because of his faith Moses became the most famous man in Jewish history
with God’s working through the life of Moses he led the people to be a great nation
a nation that still exists today
the quality or the quantity of the faith of Moses was nothing compared to the power of God
our faith does not have to be big.. but what little faith we have must be put into the power of God
And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
And the Lord said, “If you have faith like a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea’; and it would obey you.
“But which of you, having a slave plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come immediately and sit down to eat’?
“But will he not say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat, and, clothing yourself properly, serve me while I eat and drink; and afterward you may eat and drink’?
“Is he grateful to the slave because he did the things which were commanded?
“In this way, you also, when you do all the things which are commanded of you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’”
it’s been said of Moses that he was the meekest man ever
he knew he was a slave of God
the power was not in Moses but in the almighty
Reproach Rather Than Riches
Reproach Rather Than Riches
so he had the attitude of being God’s slave is better than all the riches in Egypt
in fact when the Israelites left the slavery of Egypt they took the riches of the land with them
when Moses ma put him in the basket after breakfast she got him back before lunch
a conscious choice to trust in God today is worth the price of admission
let’s look at some men who chose reproach over riches
Like Moses, Daniel refused the king’s food (Dan 1:8). Both chose purity over pleasure, conviction over compromise. Moses refused Pharaoh’s daughter’s title; Daniel refused Nebuchadnezzar’s table. Both saw beyond the glitter to God’s glory. --
The Decision of C.T. Studd
C.T. Studd, a British cricket star, inherited a fortune but gave it all away to serve Christ in Africa and Asia.
His motto: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.” He lived Hebrews 11:25 — choosing eternal joy over earthly gain.
The Choice of the Early Christians
In the Roman arenas, believers were told, “Burn incense to Caesar and live.” They replied, “We will not — we have a higher King.” They chose suffering with God’s people over the pleasures of sin. Their blood became the seed of the Church. -
William Borden,
heir to the Borden dairy fortune, renounced his wealth to serve Christ as a missionary. His classmates thought him foolish.
He wrote in his Bible three phrases:
No reserves
No retreats
No regrets
Borden died young, but his decision inspired countless missionaries.
He, like Moses, chose eternal reward over earthly ease.
Moses chose to be a poor slave for Jesus for the future treasures in eternity.
