Heavenly Father,
We thank You that in a world filled with confusion and competing voices, Your truth never changes. Your Word is sure, Your promises are faithful, and Your Son is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
As we begin this series, we ask You to give us hearts that are teachable and minds that are grounded in Your Word. Help us to grow in wisdom, discernment, and spiritual maturity. Protect us from deception and guide us by Your truth through the ministry of Your Holy Spirit.
Above all, help us to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ more deeply. May this study strengthen our faith, deepen our confidence in Scripture, and anchor us firmly in You.
Speak to us through Your Word today, and may everything we learn bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus' name we pray,
Amen.
Series Introduction
Series Introduction
As we begin this new series, Anchored in Truth, I want you to understand what this journey is going to be about.
We are living in a day when there are more voices competing for our attention than ever before. Through television, social media, podcasts, books, news outlets, and countless online teachers, people are constantly being told what to believe, how to think, and what truth is supposed to be. Yet in the middle of all that noise, many Christians are struggling to know what is truly biblical and what is not.
This series is designed to help us become discerning believers—not suspicious believers, not cynical believers, but biblical believers who know how to distinguish truth from error through the Word of God.
Over the next fifteen weeks, we are going to learn why discernment is necessary, how spiritual deception operates, why doctrine matters, how the Holy Spirit guides us into truth, and how spiritual maturity strengthens our ability to recognize error. We will examine how false teaching develops, how believers can test what they hear, and how churches can cultivate a culture that loves and values truth.
We will also learn how to defend truth without becoming harsh, how to correct error with grace, and how pastors and church leaders are called to protect the flock from spiritual deception.
Most importantly, this series will continually bring us back to Jesus Christ. Because discernment is not merely about identifying what is false. It is ultimately about knowing what is true. And truth is not merely a concept or an idea—truth is found in a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ.
My prayer is that by the end of this series, we will have greater confidence in Scripture, deeper love for Christ, stronger spiritual maturity, and clearer discernment in a world filled with confusion. I want us to become believers who know what we believe, why we believe it, and who remain firmly anchored in Christ no matter what storms may come.
So as we begin today, let us ask the Lord to teach us, shape us, and ground us in His truth, for His glory and for our good.
Sermon Introduction
Sermon Introduction
We are living in an age where subjects once mocked are now openly discussed by governments, military officials, intelligence agencies, and world leaders.
Terms like “UAP” — Unidentified Aerial Phenomena — have replaced older terminology like “UFO.” Classified files are being discussed publicly. Military pilots testify to encounters with objects displaying intelligence and technological capabilities beyond known human systems.
And increasingly, voices in media, academia, and secular philosophy are preparing the public for a radical idea:
that humanity may not be alone…
that advanced non-human intelligences may have influenced human civilization…
and eventually perhaps even that mankind itself was engineered or created by extraterrestrial beings.
What is striking is not merely the phenomenon itself, but the spiritual direction of the narrative.
The modern explanation being prepared is not:
“There is a Creator God.”
It is:
“We were created by advanced beings.”
That is not a small shift.
That is a direct assault on Genesis itself.
The issue before the church is not whether strange phenomena exist.
The issue is:
How should believers interpret these things biblically?
Because the Bible already warned us that the last days would be marked by deception powerful enough to mislead the entire world.
Jesus said in Matthew 24:24 that false christs and false prophets would show “great signs and wonders” to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
Paul warned in 2 Thessalonians 2 that a “strong delusion” would come upon those who reject the truth.
The apostle John warned in 1 John 4:1:
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God…”
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
The Bible teaches that behind the visible world is an invisible spiritual realm filled with both holy and fallen beings.
So the church must ask:
Could the coming global deception involve supernatural manifestations interpreted by the world through a secular or extraterrestrial lens?
The believer must not answer with fear…
but with discernment.
I. THE BIBLE AFFIRMS THE EXISTENCE OF NON-HUMAN INTELLIGENT BEINGS
I. THE BIBLE AFFIRMS THE EXISTENCE OF NON-HUMAN INTELLIGENT BEINGS
The Bible never presents humanity as the only intelligent beings created by God.
Scripture plainly teaches the existence of:
angels
cherubim
seraphim
demons
principalities
powers
spiritual hosts of wickedness
Ephesians 6:12 says:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age…”
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
The Bible presents an unseen kingdom operating behind earthly events.
Satan himself is described as:
intelligent
organized
deceptive
powerful
able to influence nations
able to perform signs and wonders
2 Corinthians 11:14 says:
“Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”
14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.
That is important.
The enemy does not usually appear in obvious evil.
He appears in deceptive illumination.
The demonic realm often presents itself as enlightenment, progress, revelation, higher knowledge, or hidden truth.
That has always been Satan’s strategy.
In Genesis 3, the serpent did not tempt Eve with atheism.
He tempted her with “higher understanding.”
“You will be like God.”
The very first deception in human history was the promise of hidden enlightenment apart from God.
And that same lie still operates today.
II. SATAN ALWAYS SEEKS TO REPLACE THE CREATOR
II. SATAN ALWAYS SEEKS TO REPLACE THE CREATOR
Romans 1 explains humanity’s downward spiral when truth is rejected.
Romans 1:25 says:
“who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator…”
Notice the pattern:
reject God
replace truth
worship created beings
Throughout history mankind has constantly replaced God with:
idols
celestial beings
false gods
spirit beings
cosmic mythology
Modern secular culture claims to reject religion…
yet it increasingly embraces mystical spirituality, cosmic consciousness, and belief in advanced beings from the stars.
Why?
Because humanity was created to worship.
If men reject the true God, they will eventually worship something else.
And Scripture teaches that idolatry is often connected to demonic influence.
1 Corinthians 10:20 says:
“the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God.”
The Bible repeatedly connects false worship with spiritual deception.
So if a future worldview emerges claiming:
“Advanced beings seeded humanity.”
“Aliens guided civilization.”
“Religious experiences were contact with higher intelligences.”
“Jesus was merely an enlightened cosmic messenger.”
That would not be a new deception.
It would be the oldest deception in human history:
replace the Creator with created beings.
III. THE LAST DAYS WILL BE MARKED BY LYING SIGNS AND WONDERS
III. THE LAST DAYS WILL BE MARKED BY LYING SIGNS AND WONDERS
2 Thessalonians 2 is one of the clearest passages concerning end-time deception.
Paul says the coming of the lawless one will be:
“according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders.”
Notice:
the signs are real enough to deceive.
The deception is not necessarily that nothing happened.
The deception is the interpretation.
That is extremely important.
Pharaoh’s magicians in Exodus performed supernatural acts.
The witch at Endor experienced real spiritual manifestation.
Demons recognized Jesus.
Fallen spirits throughout Scripture interacted with humanity.
The Bible never teaches that supernatural manifestation automatically proves divine origin.
The question is always:
Does it align with the revealed truth of God?
The Antichrist system will apparently possess supernatural elements powerful enough to convince the world.
Revelation 13 describes miraculous signs associated with the beast system that lead the world into worship and deception.
The world will not become less spiritual in the last days.
It will become spiritually deceived.
And if modern culture has already rejected biblical explanations, then any supernatural phenomenon will almost certainly be interpreted through:
science fiction
extraterrestrial theories
evolution
cosmic intelligence
transhumanism
ancient alien narratives
The world is being conditioned to interpret spiritual realities without God.
IV. THE BATTLE IS OVER ORIGINS
IV. THE BATTLE IS OVER ORIGINS
At the center of this issue is one fundamental question:
Who created mankind?
Genesis 1:1 says:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis presents humanity as intentionally created in the image of God.
But Satan has always attacked origins because origins determine authority.
If God created mankind:
then God owns mankind
God defines truth
God defines morality
God defines salvation
mankind is accountable to Him
But if humanity is merely the product of cosmic evolution or extraterrestrial engineering…
then morality becomes relative,
truth becomes subjective,
and mankind no longer sees itself accountable to a holy Creator.
This is why Genesis is constantly under attack.
The battle is not merely scientific.
It is spiritual.
Because if the enemy can remove the Creator,
he can remove:
sin
judgment
salvation
repentance
the need for Christ
And that ultimately prepares the world for Antichrist.
V. CHRISTIANS MUST RESPOND WITH DISCERNMENT, NOT FEAR
V. CHRISTIANS MUST RESPOND WITH DISCERNMENT, NOT FEAR
Believers should avoid two dangerous extremes.
One extreme is gullibility.
The other is obsession.
The Christian must not become consumed with conspiracies, speculation, internet mythology, or sensational fear.
Colossians 2:18 warns against unhealthy fascination with mystical things and angelic speculation.
18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
At the same time, believers must not become spiritually naïve.
Scripture repeatedly commands vigilance.
1 Peter 5:8 says:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion…”
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
The church must remain grounded in:
Scripture
sound doctrine
discernment
the gospel
the lordship of Christ
Because deception thrives wherever biblical truth is weak.
The answer to deception is not panic.
The answer is truth.
A counterfeit only succeeds where people no longer know the genuine.
VI. JESUS CHRIST IS THE TRUE KING OVER ALL POWERS
VI. JESUS CHRIST IS THE TRUE KING OVER ALL POWERS
No matter what manifestations may come in the future, Scripture is clear:
Christ reigns over every throne, power, dominion, and spiritual authority.
Colossians 1:16 says:
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible…”
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Jesus is not one being among many.
He is the eternal Creator over all things visible and invisible.
Demons tremble before Him.
Satan is defeated by Him.
Every power in heaven and earth remains under His authority.
The believer does not fear the darkness because Christ has already triumphed.
At the cross, Jesus disarmed principalities and powers according to Colossians 2:15.
15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
The final victory is not uncertain.
Revelation does not end with deception winning.
It ends with Christ returning in glory.
Conclusion
Conclusion
The church must prepare for increasing deception in the last days.
Whether through technology,
false religion,
global ideology,
or supernatural manifestations,
the world is moving toward a unified rejection of biblical truth.
And if humanity is offered an explanation for existence that removes God and replaces Him with “higher beings,” millions will embrace it because they already rejected the truth of Scripture.
But believers must stand firm.
Our answer is not:
“Maybe aliens created us.”
Our answer is:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Our answer is:
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
Our answer is:
“Jesus Christ is Lord.”
The issue is not whether strange phenomena exist.
The issue is whether mankind will worship the Creator…
or the creation.
And in the end,
only one King will stand forever:
Jesus Christ.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word and for the truth that never changes. As we leave today, help us to be people who love Your truth, study Your Word, and follow Christ faithfully.
Give us discerning hearts in a world filled with confusion. Help us to test everything by Scripture and to remain anchored in Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Holy Spirit continue to teach us, guide us, and mature us throughout this series, so that we might stand firm for Your glory.
We ask it in Jesus' name,
Amen.
