Most of us can remember a situation where you might have been lost, in need, scared, or needed assurance. It may have been when someone was traveling and they called when they arrived safely. Voices are distinct. For those of use who are old enough we can probably remember the voice of Paul Harvey or Walter Cronkite.
Children when they are in group can pick out their parents or grandparents from a crowd. They simply call their name and look, come or decidedly ignore. And we all know that voice when we are in trouble and our name is called.
Voices of a singer are especially easier to recognize. Think of Elvis Presley, Brad Paisley, Bruno Mars, Jimmy Buffet, Frank Sinatra. I am sure you can name a few of your own.
There is something that can be comforting in a voice.
Our scripture and our Gospel are about the hearing and listening to Jesus’ voice. It is a voice that provides us with a trust and confidence in Him and whatever situation we are in whether it is need or joy. When we listen to His voice we have the assurance of His presence in our life and the lives around us.
