Build Connection
Have you ever changed your mind about something important?
I’m not talking about what you want for lunch or what you are going to wear for the day, I’m talking about major decisions like selling your home and moving to a new one or changing occupations.
In our almost 21 years of marriage Jeanette and I have lived in 9 different houses in 7 different cities in 3 different states. If you don’t count the almost 8 years here, we have lived in 6 different cities in 8 different houses in 13 years. All of these moves were ministry related.
In all this, the one thing that has been unmoved is our core beliefs. The things we believe to be true, and of upmost importance.
Create Tension
I asked someone if there was something that was unmoveable in his life and he said his love for his wife. Then I asked, what if she started sleeping around with all kids of men, quit her job and started spending money recklessly. not to mention expecting you to work all day and then take care of the home and kids at night. Would that change you relationship with your wife?
While almost everything in our lives we view as movable, there is one thing that should be “Unmoved,” that is what I want to talk to you about today.
Provide Solution
We are starting a new series today called, “Anchored” and we are going to be looking at what Anchors our lives.
Without an unmoveable anchor in our lives we will be tossed around by the waves of deceit coming from the father of lies!
Ephesians 4:14
“14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.”
Unfortunately we will all continually face a world that is trying to feed us lies, the question is how will we know what is true and what is not? This is where the anchor of our lives comes in!
2 Timothy 3:16
“16 All Scripture is inspired by God…”
Scripture is the anchor of all life, the really important question is, are you connected to it?
There are some things we need to understand about scripture.
As already mentioned, it is inspired by God.
As already mentioned, it is inspired by God.
Inspired means as Peter puts it in 2 Peter 1:21 “…moved by the Holy Spirit…”
Being inspired by God we can hold that It is all True
Being inspired by God we can hold that It is all True
Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God proves true…”
Two terms to remember:
“Inerrancy” accurately holds that every word of the original writings of the Bible was exactly what God wanted for humanity to receive. Since it was from God, who is the Source of Truth, every word of the originals was true in every way, including morally, theologically, and factually.
“Infallibility” correctly holds that the Bible has not failed to accomplish what it was intended to say theologically. Care should be used with this word, however, since some who reject biblical inerrancy use this word to allow for moral relativism and to wrongly claim factual errors, such as in areas of science and history.
It is unmatched as a collection of unified writings.

Image of interconnectedness of the Bible.
Why do we need the Bible?
Why do we need the Bible?
2 Timothy 3:16
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16, NRSV)
Discovery Learning—According to Paul’s instruction in 2 Timothy 3:16, when the Bible isallowed to minister to us, we will be profited in four major ways.
& “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable . . .
for doctrine, (Acts 17:11 and 1 Timothy 4:6)
for reproof, (Hebrews 4:12-13)
for correction, (Acts 18:24-26)
for instruction in righteousness . . . ” (Psalm 119:9-16)
I had recently read a report from the Center of Bible Engagement which was based on a 40,000 people study, and the statistics of that report were eye-opening.
The study revealed that if you read your bible two to three times a week, there was little noticeable change in your life, but if you read it four or more times a week, all of a sudden there was a dramatic change in the impact that your reading had upon your life.
The research revealed that:
loneliness dropped 30%
anger issues dropped 32%
bitterness in relationships dropped 40%
alcohol consumption dropped 57%
feeling spiritually stagnant dropped 60%
viewing pornography dropped 60%
sharing your faith increased 20%
commitment to discipling other believers jumped 200%
The scripture also points to Jesus
We know that the NT is about Jesus, but the OT also points to Jesus…
John 5:39 ““You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!”
Let’s talk about the law specifically as it relates to Jesus.
We know the OT law was given by God to the Israelites so they would be identified as his people, but lets go a layer deeper..
What was it that enabled Jesus to become our sacrifice? He was perfect, he did not sin by breaking the law. But who’s law, GODS!
Encourage Change
Are you anchored in life or do you feel constantly moved by the world? Only God can give you stability!
