Day 1 Theme: God Delivers!

Today I want to introduce you to a man who lived thousands of years ago! His name is Moses. Has anyone ever heard of Moses before? Well, Moses was just a man like you and I, but God used him in an amazing way and saved an entire nation called Israel. You see, it all started a long time ago when a lady named Jochebed had a baby boy named Moses. The ruler of the land made a law that said all baby boys must die. Instead of listening to the king, she hid her baby boy for three months before she couldn’t hide him any longer. She then placed him into a basket and put him in the river. The boy Moses was found by the king’s daughter and Moses was then raised in the king’s palace.
Phase 1: The bondage of Egypt (Exodus 1)
It wouldn’t be long before he would watch at his people, the Israelites in the land, were being treated so poorly by the Egyptians! They were being beat and made to work!
Israel were slaves to Egypt
They were forced to work
They were beat
Because of this, they cried out to God in agony...
God “heard their cry” and sent Moses to deliver them from this terrible life...
Phase 2: The Calling of Moses (Exodus 2-4)
Moses left Egypt and was tending to his father-in-law’s flock! While he was on a mountain, an amazing site happened! God spoke to Moses out of a burning bush… yes! a real bush that was on fire, but it didn’t burn up! God told Moses that He had prepared him for something very special. God told Moses He wanted him to go to Egypt to deliver His people, the Israelites, from the cruel bondage of Egypt.
Do you think Moses went?
He didn’t want to go!
In fact, he told God that He had the wrong man! He wasn’t capable of doing what God wanted him to do!
But God said to Moses that he just needed to obey and He (God) would help him do the rest.
Phase 3 The 10 Plagues on Egypt (Exodus 8-11)
Moses went to Egypt and told the Pharaoh to “Let Israel go!”, but he refused...
In fact, he started being meaner to the Israelite people and hurting them even more than before!
So God sent 10 plagues to Egypt:
Plague 1: He turned all the water in Egypt into blood! Gross!
Plague 2: He sent frogs to every part of Egypt; even in their houses and beds!
Plague 3: He turned all the dust of the ground into lice! Gross!
Plague 4: He sent flies into all of Egypt in great swarms!
Plague 5: He caused all of the cows to become diseased!
Plague 6: He sent boils! Ouch!
Plague 7: He sent large pieces of hail which killed anything that was in the field!
Plague 8: He sent locust across all of Egypt!
Plague 9: He sent a complete darkness over where the Egyptians lived. It was so dark they couldn’t see anything for 3 days!
Plague 10: Finally, he killed every firstborn child in Egypt.
Phase 4: The Exodus of Israel (Exodus 13)
This is what finally made Pharaoh agree that Israel could leave. In fact, he told them to leave and the Egyptians gave them jewels and other things they could take with them on their journey! But God saw His people were hurting and suffering. So He sent someone to free them from their suffering. That was Moses that God used in an amazing way.
Israel then left Egypt and began walking a very long ways to a place called the Promised Land. Along the way they are going to run into battles… there will be problems… there will be amazing things that God will do! Come back tomorrow night to figure out what the next amazing thing that God did for Israel!
