In this chapter Israel is asking Samuel for a king to rule over them. They had become dissatisfied with the current form of government. It was not God's designed rule that was the problem but rather Israel's lack of obedience to God's prescription. Nevertheless they asked for a king "make us a king to judge us like other nations".
There are a few lessons we can learn from this prayer.
1. We often seek different circumstances when in reality what we need is to simply obey God
2. We need to be careful what we ask God for. God granted Israel's request but it was not his original design. I wonder what would have happened to Israel had they obeyed God and lived under his direct rule?
- one day we will live under the Theocratic rule as the Lord Jesus rules and reigns in Jerusalem for 1000 years during the millennial reign.
We do not need to wait until that time to let the Lord reign in our hearts and lives!
