The Children of Israel

V 29 they walked through the red sea
wall of water on either side
these people had to trust in God not to drown them
they all deserved to be drowned because of the way that they treated Moses and God
because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God
God’s grace opened up the waters and let the people go through without anyone getting wet
except the little children who walked near the water and drug their and through it
and when they got to the other side God allowed the army to start to cross
it’s to bad the Israelites by faith did not enter into the promised land at that time
another 40 years
so, they finally came into the promised land
V 30
the walls of Jericho were impenetrable by anything that Israel had for weapons
but God said do it this way
walk around 1 for 6 days
on the 7th walk around 7 times
Why? how??
when they did exactly how God said to do it the walls fell
in the eyes of the people on the wall it was foolish
watching them go around and around
1 Corinthians 1:18–25 LSB
For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside.” Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased, through the foolishness of the message preached, to save those who believe. For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
going around probably felt foolish
looked foolish
but God’s way is never man’s way
this is the backdrop of our heroine for today
By faith Rahab

Rahab

one family has been spared from the total destruction of Jericho
all people and animals in the city were annihilated
but by faith Rahab did something
Joshua 2
V 1-3 the providence of God
V 4-7 By Faith
Hebrews 11:31 LSB
By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after welcoming the spies in peace.
welcoming the spies was the result of her faith
something happened that caused this woman to put her faith in God
how could this woman in Canaan who are surrounded by very sinful pagans know about the God of the Bible ?
the rest of the population of was judged for their sin and wickedness
in Exodus 33 19 it says
I show favor to whomever I will, and I display mercy to whomever I will.
Romans 9:15 LSB
For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
God is sovereign and shows mercy to one family in this wicked city
so this prostitute was given grace and she by faith
and because she has been given grace she hid the spies
V 8-11
these people have been terrified for 40 years
knowing the power of Yahweh and knowing that He is the God of the Israelites
Deuteronomy 4:39 LSB
“Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that Yahweh, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.
V 11 she is saying the same thing that Moses said, how does she know this?
Abraham was given the gospel
Moses knew of the Messiah
I believe before these spies come to town this prostitute was saved because of a special revelation from God.
James 2 14-26
James confirms that the faith that Rahab had was true saving faith because it resulted in works
V 12 14
saving her family
V 15-22
The scarlet cord kept this part of the wall coming down saving the people inside
the scarlet blood of Jesus saved his people from their sins
God used this woman to hide the spies
also to inform them of the attitude of the people
V 23-24
the land is ours!!
Rahab was also used of God for a another special reason
Matthew 1:5–6 LSB
And Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed was the father of Jesse. And Jesse was the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah.
she was the great-grandmother to king David
and a bunch of greats of Jesus
what a great honor for this woman to have

The Prostitute

God shows mercy to this woman gives her grace
makes her a great heroine of the Bible
James in the New Testament church honors her and brings her name as an example to the church because this early church knew who she was
one of the schemes of Satan is to keeps us from doing something great is guilt and un-worthiness
how can God use me I was a prostitute
but He did
God saves us to great things for the kingdom
He uses that background that we come with
By Faith we- with the power of God can sometimes do the Impossible
