How to Complain in the Cave of Your Suffering:
Grumbling Complaint that Condemns; and Faith-filled Complaint that Frees
Dear Congregation of our Lord jesus Christ,
Do you know how to complain? Really two options:
I. Some say: This has happened in your life - untl you are angry with God - have it out withhim - be lying to yourself and conflictsed - cmmend the honesty - but not true that it is ever alright good, helahty better, true to be angry at God! Is that what Davdid is doing here? COmplaining as angry venting? Really stems from Rabbi Kishner’s faulty argument - either GGood but not powerful, or powerful but not good. Take altter route - no trust of God in such preayer, self -centred -ultimately untrue view of suffering and of God, and or yourself.

II. The otherside will say, all complaint is wrong - fatalism, instead of personal Sovreignty in borken world with freedom, piety si to say live in the besto f all psosbile worlds - whategver happns is good - mistaken reading of - dones’t say that God created iand is responsible for all things - Says God is sovereign over all things, even evil he didn’t create, the suffering he is not responsible for - sovereign able to work good out of it ; never outwardly complain against God - lot of fakinging that this doesn’t hurt isn’t really evil - not much honesty - hide your pain suffering … but think that add up all suffering, find reason why - meansureing - as if good God works out of broken situations - neat equation!
In both ways of dealing with suffering - no real solving it - one fixated and exaggerates, really control s you… the other minimizes and is out of step with reality - sin against the HOly Spirit in not akncolweging and sharing the weakness that bruden, or at least you won’t turn to others, let alone God - to have your burden lift it - try to live by self-salvation! Self-sufficient! Not meant to live likethat , not in a broken world!
One genre3 of Psalms hardly dealt with as I’ve tried to give you the contours of the book - there - but wanted to give you a tour throughout he five books, tohe other major themes - Risked losing sight of the theme of blessing and the act of pure praise. One other action Psalms given to help you in that I riske losing in this approach - Lament - godly complaint in a broken world, with real pain and suffering! Just like sanctified anger in the psirtual vbattle, so to Psalm train you to discipline your emotions working powerfully - complaint , lament, sadness -
1. Bring your honest complaint to God in faith!
Faith brings honest complaint to God in faith!
Bring your isolating suffering to the LORD
1. Bring your isolating suffering to the LORD isolating-suffering!
The context makes this so clear - David’s life divided into parts - what part gets the most prayers - no queestion hard times, particualrly his flight from Saul!
Once talked to a man in his 50’s didn’t believe it, but pyscholigist say that their are moments in life that shape you! Proceed to tell me of a parent that left multiple times, last time for divorce - leaving the house, as a little child, clinging on leg, as being draggedout door. Don’t leave!
It seems those months after David had sleighed Goliath, entered miilitaruy service, married princess Micah - but then faither-in-law’s jealousy of his success - worst expereince of David’s life. No provision , nol followers, no place to turn. Ahimilelech the priest at Nob, gives him food, and Goliath’s sword - Saul hunts down kills priest for helping - imagine guilt! Flees across the border to enemies of Philistia city of Gath - dangerous and unworkable - leaving town now what - door slmamed one after another - when though God was with him - escapes inot the wildrenss again and hides in acave the cave Adullam - knew anointied one, yet no one joined yet, alone - eventually brothers family, and other men discontent join him - compoose many up to __ Psalms about this suffering, companioin Psalm after through those months it semes. But Psam 142 probably first - so raw - so alone, and less bold and animated than . Kidner says it like this the strain of being hatyed and hunted is almost too much and his faith is at full stretch”
This is no theoretical question about how to pray or sing, historical lesson. You have skin in this game so to speak. You believe in God, yet you suffer, if not greatly promises you wil in this world, if only in final struggle of death! You need to udneratnd something about suffering - ultimately it is isolating. Like sin separates, suffering isolates!
Alexander Maclaern wrote: The soul that has to wade through dep waters has always to do it alone; for no human sympathy reaches to full know of or share in, even the beest loved one’s grief.”
The proverb is true:
The heart knows its own bitterness,
and no stranger shares its joy.
Why as wonderful as brotherly love is, ultimately not the answer to our sufferings, something more - isolaties you - end up with your self- bare self - stripped of everything but what will laost, before a holy and powerful God - suffering answer where is God in all this. What Luther called the theolgoy of perosnal pronouns…
Why we have cyncil sayings like: Laught and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone. Ella Wheeler Wilcox.
In David’s suffering he has ended up in this plight
Look to the right and see:
there is none who takes notice of me;
no refuge remains to me;
no one cares for my soul.
What should we don when reach that point? Lash out a God - not faith, angry right to be angry at you - complain to others …
Look a the path David takes:
Emphatic cry to the lord, emphasis with my own voice, outl oud, in conrete words spoke directely to God - I cry out to the LORD.
Names Him as the covenant God - plead mercy
But look at . Like a soldier pours out, spills, blood. Like a drink offering poured and emptied before the LORD. David with utter honesty rw emotion - pour out his heart, spilss his guts to the LORD. Friend like that… how about the LORD!
But look at . Like a soldier pours out, spills, blood. Like a drink offering poured and emptied before the LORD. David with utter honesty rw emotion - pour out his heart, spilss his guts to the LORD. Friend like that… how about the LORD!
It is not enough to thinbk about the LORD, or rattle off a prayer list. Talk to Him!
I pour out my complaint before him;
I tell my trouble before him.
That is a word you must know in the Psalm - Complaint, perosnal Lament - muse and meditate on what is painful! It is not only ok to complain to God, it is a requirement in a broken world - if you are to be in right relationship with the Lord who looks on HIs people’s sufferings with compassion and readiness to act! He is the cry heraing God - heard Abel’s cry - heard the cries of His children in Egypt - what starts the drama of redemption from our human point of view.. in mercy God attending to the cry of His peopole!
hERE IS ALL MY TROUBLE - NOT SPIRIT OF ANGER Against gOD, ANGER WITHOUT SIN, IS ANGER AT THE SITUATION THAT DARES BRING IT TO gOD - SAY i DON’T UNDERSTAND, i DON’T LIKE THIS, THere is something so wrong in this eivl, and in this suffering - but God I know you are not the author - not lashing out at you - but its there - I can’t fix it - I am complaining about it to you!
hERE IS ALL MY TROUBLE - NOT SPIRIT OF ANGER Against gOD, ANGER WITHOUT SIN, IS ANGER AT THE SITUATION THAT DARES BRING IT TO gOD - SAY i DON’T UNDERSTAND, i DON’T LIKE THIS, THere is something so wrong in this eivlk, and inthis suffering - but God I know you are not the author - not lashing out at you - but its there - I can’t fix it - I am complaingin about it to you!
Psalms where the problems don’t bring forth emotioanl response of despration, others so clear! Maybe you don’t have a life defingin suffering can think that shaped you - but there is suffering inyour life and in this world - that God expects
Heart needs to be \trained to be angery to be sorrowful - but not to sin in those fragile times. Neeed to see SDavid, in his dire stratis in relationship, physical, social trouble - Need to see David’s greater Son - bring his lament in the garden of his suffering - cryies out and Hebrews tells us he was heard for his many cries!
Could you pass the complanining test - first perosn turn to others - angry way against God or even against your enemy - or in the suffering, srrow , the injustice, life definingin - have you called out in frustaartionk and pain - but with faith
there is desperation, grief, anxiety, frustration, and lament. But in none of it is there justified anger against God. There is a world of difference between “How long, O Lord” and “How DARE you, O Lord?” These Psalms have a great deal of the former and none of the latter. We can complain to the Lord, but not of the Lord.
Denny Burk after a post on this writes back: “The Psalms are doing their level best to show us that no matter how low we feel, no matter how low we go, God is good and holy and trustworthy in all that He is and all that He does. The faithful response to affliction is to believe in God’s goodness and faithfulness no matter how bad things get. This is the fight for faith that all of us have to wage when the chips are down..”
There may come times when you are angry about God - you need to tell him about it - like job in repenance and faith - aknocledge just don’t get it - No matter how painful or perplexing it is never right to be angry at God - turning away from teh One who is good and trustworhty even in the midst of suffering!
That is David’s urgent plea in his complaint, not “How dare you God! I don’t deserve this, do my will now?” But in pouring out his distress, He is seeking God’s help in his trouble! Outwardly verbablly loudly - asking with His voice from his whole being - have mercy in this particualar situation!
Need to know this is Jesus point in , prayers that we are to keep praying out loud, persistaently without giving up!
And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
It is easy to pray in easy times, prayers don’t have much punch often in those times - but to pray - in the trial that is the test! David it was hurtin relationship to Sasul, dispappointment - what is it in your life - months in that cave, then another in the En Gedi - know that God does his best work it seems in the deset in the cave of our suffering, and it is ours in faith to compain to him not at Him!
And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’ ” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’ ” And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.” And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”
And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.” But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.
As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
But what must we do beyond taking hold of God and saying listen this is my pain - do something please!
In V.v3-5 We see how faith is combined with complaint to bring confidence in our times of distress and anger!
B. Claim God’s Help with Confidence! (Don’t just ask, confess faith)
How many of you have used you-tuber - before you-tube for household problems - Reader’s Digest Hanyman’s Manual. Used to love leafing through this book - now You Tube - fix car, plbumbing - just copying without really understanding end up - over your head. With Confidence you pick up the phone - and Dave the Apllicance Guy Comes… Marshall’s Automotive. At a critical point you admit defeeat - beyond my competency - watershed and turning point!
Look what a bleiever who really knwos how to complain can do:
When my spirit faints within me, you know my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me.
Sinful complain is when the testing comes - you say I can’t fix this, it an’t fair, and God you can’t fix this , its’beyond your control, and its all your fault - and i reseent you for it -. But godly complaint says - with emotional wisdom -recognizes - my spiritual mental emotional resources spent dealign with this - I am emotionally numb and mentally fogged over - the core of my beingis fianitng . i am lost and can’t see my way out of this -
But there is one thing I know you know me, more miportant ly you know my DEREK! Lokk at the change in Prounouns. In v.1-2 it is I and my ; but loik at 3-4 YOu , v.4 addressed to God who is right there with Him - You “Look to eh right and see;there is none who takens notivce of me!”
Initmate knowledge of - enter into my way - Reemphaizes it the path where I walk = - this is Jesus Christ - saying there is a broad path and a narrow path - in the integrity of my heart even in suffering, humble ly with repenetnace - leading me on narrow path - God doesn’t know way of the wicked like this. It perishes; But God knows way of the righteous, he’s not charting it in heaven, he walks it with us.
And in that experience of bring the complaint, and finding God right there with Him knowing His rtrouble - he experiences the ultiamte confidence that we all must learn in our suffering!
Look to the right and see: there is none who takes notice of me; no refuge remains to me; no one cares for my soul.
The right hand, was where strong allies, warriors would stand about you. The right hand is where guest of honours dear friends and family would be. No one is there! Turns out 400 fighting friends soon turn up … but David before Cave of Engedai - beginning of cave o ff Addulam- learning most imoprtant lesson we are to learn in our suffering:

Turns out 400 fighting friends soon turn up … but David before Cave of Engedai - beiging of cave o ff Addulam- learning most imoprtant lesson we are to learn in our suffering:
v. 4b NO refuge remains to me! Utterly shcoking revelation that nothing in this wrold - can give true refegue, ultaimte refuge, all the supports of this life - home, family, church, money, work, looks - naked you came into th is world, naked you will leave, everything this world says matters, stripped away and must see what you really have, what will really endure!
Do you sense David's isolation, loneliness - best friend Jonathan - circumstances such that closest friendship his marriage, everything eclipsed.
Remember point in a relationship in university - decided to test it - interested in each other - but never wanted to “need” each other - in way that we needed the Lord! If it were to end today - it is not my slavation, you are not - God is … Can you say that about everyting , every blessing , every burden laid on your back - nothing in this that is my slavation, that ulitatmely neee,d nothing inthis that is my curse that can dman me in a way hat it chagnes my ultaitme standing with the LROD and destinty with Him in eternity!!
David expereince s that - and exhaustred as he is - emotionally numb, intellectulally tired out and incappiciated … Look at v. 5
I cry to you, O Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
This is the act of confidence in God we must rise to in our suffering! See that heart of the test and trials you face, yes, enemies (not just perosnal ones, but the enemey of the Messiah David, who would wreck all God’s good plan for you and for this world, he has set hsi traps for you - he will trip you up - he roars aoroudn l ike a raging ion seekng to scare, and if possible to decievve and destroy you! Oh see the enemey of your soul of Christ chruch in this world - recognize Live ina dangerous land of unbelieif, of hatred of the holy - no safety but in Finding refuge in the LORD of the covenant
This is the actof confidience in God we must rise to in our suffering! See that heart of the test and trials you afce, yes, enemies (not just perosnal ones, but the enemey of the Messiah David, who would wreck all God’s good plan for you and for this world, he has set hsi traps for you - he will trip you up - he roars aoroudn l ike a raging ion seekng to scare, and if possible to decievve and destroy you! Oh see the enemey of your soul of Christ chruch in this world - recognize Our fight is not with flesh and blood but with principlaities and powers of this dark age. Spritiual authroities in the heavenly places! Live ina dangerous land of unbelieif, of hatred of the holy - no safety but in Finding refuge in the LORD of the covenant
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Undertand what david is syaing, he had been anoitned king - supposed to inherit the land - liek PT Barnum - trick a joke - got nothing - bitterness and sinful complaint went on to be con-man - be you and me in our sufferng unless take this step of confidence. Adam swindled by Satan out of the inheriting the earth - blessing of the God - became an exile. people scrambling for a portion inthis world - but looks won’t do it - fade, sports wont’ do it concussion, age, porulatiryt - aduince aplause grow silent -ache - nothing this inthis world is a true and everlasting oprtion!
And LORD GOd gave us a pictuer of it 11 tribes got land, but levites - portion inheritance wa the living God - sure lived on land, famred it, but not their portion protino was God. Can you say that with david feels so ripped off, desitateu of what wants and prmised in this world, but realiszies just like God is at his right hand, -so tooo he has a poriton int eh Land of the Lcing tg - living God - - richest man in the worldk, with nothing in his hands, forsaken inthat cave, as when had the kingdom!
Can you say as David as he brought this complaint with great hope to the Lord over the months could:
Can you say as David as he brought this complaint with great hope to the Lord over the months could:
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.
Can you choose that portion as Abraham didn wehen he said to Lot you choose first - chosse best land - rather be a door keeper in house of God than dwell in the tents of the wciked!
Do you remember how it played out - Lot carried off with the Kingo f Sodom in war. Abraham went to battle against those kingso f the east, frees him - met by Melichidzedek , Kingo f Slaem - opreist of the Most High God - remember what Abarahm did next - fed and bless by this Melichizedek - but then he gives a tenth of all hie has. He returns all the spoils, and resturend each peson who had been captured. And the Abrtham is alone - gained nothing from all that battling - in danger of retalitory attack of theose Kingso f the East.
Remember what happens next God appears to Abarham and what does he say?
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”
You can learn this in suffering! The person who possess God is richer than even the wealthiest of this world. Why Jesus says, Don’t lay up treasure on earth... .
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
In faith are you taking hold of Him as your treasure, finding him as a refuge in the storm!?
It is fascinating to see that what David was looking to his right hand for, wa really the advocate. Couldn’t find one on earth, yet! Someone like Job wanted too - that would plead His cause, His redeemer!
What you need to understand that even great Daveid need HIm, but He has come - he come in the flessh, and stood on this earth He himself went alone into the cavbe, in to the danger and distres of suffering, death, even buruail. And no one sought him, no one defended Him No one aenged His soul ! But that Adovcate beat dath, that Advocate earned a rewward - an inheritance, a teausre - besotw on You…
Have you cmmitted your self and your cause to HIm?
And that brings us to the last part of how to complain in a godly way. Not only the troubles brought to the Lord, nor the Confidence in the Lord at Your Hand as Reufuge. but you must aks somrhtin gothe Lord in faith - if you are to give the goldy complaint!
And that brings us to the last part of how to complain in a godly way. Not only the troubles brought to the Lord, nor the Confidence in the Lord at Your Hand as Reufuge. but you must aks somrhtin gothe Lord in faith - if you are to give the goldy complaint!
C. Petition the LORD for Victory in Your Life
Look at the verbs David uses in petitioning God Attend, Deliver, Bring me out. Deal Bountifully!
Problem with the media, constantly bombarded with bad news. Grow to feel nothing but bad happens or will happen. Refreshing to watch CBN - World Watch… Great and tremdnedous thigns happneing in missions, church, kigndom fo God… But like watching millionso f murders -d esnsitivezed, and pretty soon think that’s normal and all that will happen. in our lives too - become like impateint gardners - grass seed not uip again today, never going to come up - give up hope - no longer ask great things of God - believe arm is shortened in our time!
Suffering does bring us low - persecutors and mockers of God’s church and true religion - the world, the flesh and devil - will often be too strong for us!
Not true that God doesn’t give us more than we can handle. Part of the curse on sin in nthis borken world - is we can’t handled it sin, evil suffering, need a Saviour - Christian life as model of prayer Jesus taught us - Call ou t for Delviearance can’t find anuywhere else!\
Are you? Anything ackwnledge in this life that you can’t handle “too strong for me”
Are you? Anything ackwnledge in this life that you can’t handle “too strong for me”
WHole reason for this the last colelction of Davidic Psalm - answering question - we’re in prison, we failed, we’rein exile any hope - compilers of the psalter say - listen exiles - listen sinners listen you sitting in prison , iwolderness like david so long ago - David’s suffering and way went htrough it - has got to be the template of your life and how you go through suffering!
And marvel of God’s providence, Lord jesus Christ, the great er David all of these Psalm in Book Five is referring too… he prayed like this, his human prayers a mediator, necessary, for us, and they were heard, answer ed - heard because of the pleading!
Spurgeon - said: Believeer whern you are on your knees remember you are going to a king. Let your peititons be large. Must expect great God to answer greatly!
And marvel of God’s providence, Lord jesus Christ, the great er David all of these Psalm in Book Five is refrering too… he prayed like this, his human prayers a mediator, necessary, for us, and they were heard, answer ed - heare because of the pleading!
That true David, was delivered from his stronger peresecutors, brought from the cave of the grace, exalted to this heavenly throne - owned as king, obeyed as King by the convereted nations - you and me who are the New and true Israel
That true David, was delivered from his stronger peresecutors, brought from the cave of the grace, exalted to this heavenly throne - owned as king, obeyed as King by the convereted nations - you and me who are the New and true Israel
And do you see the end of those who learn how to complain in a holy way of the suffering, evil and sin - bringing it to yo God with Gconfidence, and bodlly asking for God’s All-sufficient y to eet our every need?
Bring me out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name! The righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me.
What I love about how Hebrews describes what jesus is doing after he rose -
I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
not ahamed of us in the battle, in prison of suffering, in battle with sin - but Christ comes out of prisoin - comes back to the great congregation - and he leads them in song!
Righteous surround him - and the Lord deals bountifully with him and them!
Righteous surround him - and the Lord deals bountifully with him and them!
What a picture we have of this word - what God caused to happen to Moses and Aaron’s rod:
On the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and behold, the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds.
We need to do to this - to plead about prisons we get into - share that struggle and individually but also together - we need to come back from our prayer - and when the deliverance has come - to being glory - and share in the bounty together! Is that you tonight, not only rescued by God, but set free from from yoru pirson cace, inorder to serve and praise God here togterht with His borthers and sisters?
David, driven out of home with nothing, found an inheritance in Lord. He is overcome with dangers, murderous king - but God sets free - and knows He is a King - anticipates a day when he will enjoy the fellowship of God’s people!
Three summits of faith - first in v.3 fainting but God knows the way - believe can’t know future, but know sGod does . trust him in the way. #2 Summit is in v.5 David’s content even when lacking everyting - God is His portion, #rd Summit in v.7 promises of a day when David is no longer alone
Each of you needs to climbs those three summits and you can with Jesus Christ and with his church here today:
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-1
Do you feel alone Jesus was lalone. Fell deserted So was Jesus - understand you and your suffering and will help you - Some of God’s righteousn will even stad by you too!
But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.
Come, You Sinners, Poor and Needy,
Jesus Lover of My Soul! Other refuge have I none,
