1 Peter 5:1-5
1 Peter 5:1-5
1 So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed:
2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly;
3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.
4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
I just wonder how many prideful saints are being opposed by God?
If you want God's favor then one must walk in humility!
Submit: to obey, be subject - A Greek military term meaning "to arrange [troop divisions] in a military fashion under the command of a leader". In non-military use, it was "a voluntary attitude of giving in, cooperating, assuming responsibility, and carrying a burden".
Question: Are you submitted to the Word?
Clothe: The phrase "clothe yourselves" paints a vivid picture—humility should be worn like an apron or a garment that defines a believer's everyday interactions with others.
34 Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor.
Whatever a man sows, never forget!
Again we see through out the Old and New we see how are character is effects the active grace in our lives!
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
You will absolutely have to have a new mind set if you are going to walk in humility!
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
The ultimate level of humility ! Is step down and empty yourself
Instead of being humbled - Jesus humbled himself!
Do I have the same mind set as Christ?
So do you wear the apron of humility as you serve others.
How many want more Grace in their life?
Grace here represents God’s undeserved favor, spiritual strength, and active help. When we admit our need and surrender control, God provides the supernatural ability and favor we need to endure and live victoriously.
So the question is “AM I a submitted and humble servant of the greatest Servant that ever lived”?
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Humble yourself that Grace might flow over your life!
Get this a true humble mind set says in his heart God everything I have and need is supplied by you so what do I have to be anxious about?
Do you really believe He cares for you ?
6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Who wants more Grace??
Want to rid yourself of Anxiety!
Learn to go to Jesus and do an exchange.
Humbling yourself by asking !
Asking for help not being to proud to ask!!
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Humility: It is not thinking less of yourself, but rather thinking of yourself less—choosing to lay down self-interest to serve God and others.
