Text: Hebrews 6:17-20
Hebrews 6:17–20 KJV 1900
17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
I. God is my help:
A.When we realize exactly where our help comes from and what He has already done for us it brings happiness to our lives!
1. God is the shield of our help!
Deuteronomy 33:29 KJV 1900
29 Happy art thou, O Israel: Who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, The shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; And thou shalt tread upon their high places.
B. God has power to help!
2 Chronicles 25:8 KJV 1900
8 But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
C. We have nothing to fear, for God has promised that He will be our help!
Isaiah 41:10 KJV 1900
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: Be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; Yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
D. Also, we ought not be covetous of things that we don’t have because that will lead to discontentment and will cause us to despise our help, but if we learn to be content the Bible tells us that He will never leave us nor forsake us!
Hebrews 13:5–6 KJV 1900
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
II. God is our refuge:
A. No matter what the enemy tries to put in your way, God will thrust the enemy out from before you and be your refuge!
Deuteronomy 33:27 KJV 1900
27 The eternal God is thy refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms: And he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; And shall say, Destroy them.
B. When wecome to church out of the desire of our heart and out of love tocome into His house and love for Him, He will hide you when you are introuble!
Psalm 27:4–5 KJV 1900
4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. 5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: In the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock.
1. God is our refuge and strength in time of trouble.
Psalm 46:1 KJV 1900
1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
C. When we fear the Lord, we will have refuge in Him!
Proverbs 14:26 KJV 1900
26 In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: And his children shall have a place of refuge.
D. We can have access to that refuge through the name of the Lord!
Proverbs 18:10 KJV 1900
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
E. When we realize that we have refuge and help from the Lord it will cause usto glorify Him!
Isaiah 25:3–4 KJV 1900
3 Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, The city of the terrible nations shall fear thee. 4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, A strength to the needy in his distress, A refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, When the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
III. God is our Comforter (Saviour):
Psalm 71:19–21 KJV 1900
19 Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, Who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee! 20 Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, Shalt quicken me again, And shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. 21 Thou shalt increase my greatness, And comfort me on every side.
A. When God comforts you,He will turn your heartache from turmoil to rejoicing!
Isaiah 51:3 KJV 1900
3 For the Lord shall comfort Zion: He will comfort all her waste places; And he will make her wilderness like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness shall be found therein, Thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.
1. When He comforts someone, He will comfort them like a mother!
Isaiah 66:12–13 KJV 1900
12 For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, And the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: Then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, And be dandled upon her knees. 13 As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; And ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
B. Jesus told us that He would be that comforter that comforts us.
John 14:18 KJV 1900
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
C. How is Jesus the Comforter?
John 14:26–27 KJV 1900
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
1.When you are feeling down and out. What you need is the Holy Ghost!
2. When you are feeling overwhelmed. You need the Holy Ghost!
D. The Holy Ghost is the rest that causes the weary to rest!
Isaiah 28:11–12 KJV 1900
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue Will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; And this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
