Pastor Mike Knocked it out of the Park
Someone Say… Series Intro: WISE UP
We Hope Gods word can help you avoid some of bad decisions and mistakes that many make? We all have our fair share…
Here's the thing: Life without wisdom is chaotic, but doing things Gods way is always better.
Here's the good news
God didn't make wisdom hard to learn. He put it on the bottom shelf where everyone can reach it.
Today we’re talking about….
Sermon Title | Wise Money
If you're ready to stop the cycle of bad money decisions and start building financial peace, this message is for you.
Remember as Pastor Landon mentioned in week 1 Proverbs are principals, not promises.
This means most of the time things go well when we follow them.
But becuase there is still sin, and destruction, there are a host of reasons things might not go well.
To balance out this book that is heavy work and doing based…. we must remember… These principles are powerful, but our effort alone won't change our finances. We need God's grace and His transforming power.
***Feel free to encourage people to listen to the Holy Spirit speak to them personally as the message is preached
LETS PRAY
YOU CAN WALK OFF THE STAGE WHEN YOU SAY AMEN
Transition: We’re talking about
Sermon Title | Wise MONEY
Prov. says a lot about finances, due to time…. I only going to point out 5 things… that Proverbs says we should do with our money.
According to proverbs… The first thing should we should do with our money… IN YOUR NOTES is…

PRIORITIZE our money (Prov. 3:9-10)

***Clay you can have the point and upcoming verse on the same slide… it will come fast
We see this in… Prov. 3:9-10… lets read it on the screen together…
Proverbs 3:9–10 ESV
HONOR the Lord with your wealth and with the (What… ) FIRSTFRUITS of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
There is a Biblical principle at work here. I want you to notice two words.
Honor and FIRSTFRUITS…
Who are we supposed to Honor?
The Lord - this speaks of our desire to worship him…
What are we supposed to worship him with?
Our Finances
How do we honor him/Him with our Finances?
With our First Fruits… this speaks of the very first thing we do when we get our paycheck.
We see this principle early in Scripture… Abraham tithed a tenth of his income as worship to God. The tithe goes to the storehouse: your local church. It’s how God takes care of the Ministers and ministry… of the house. (Giving to other ministries or evangelists is wonderful, but that's above and beyond your tithe.)
Story: Our Tithe Story
When Krista and I first married… the 1st thing we did with the 1st paycheck we ever received was tithed.
We have have never not tithed throughout our marriage except for when I would forget early on in our marriage… (I always made it up) of course this was life before we could set up auto draft for tithing :) Now I never forget hehe.
IN YOUR NOTES… let me say it simply like this…

We prioritize our money by putting GOD FIRST with the Tithe.

This means if you make 1000 a week - you honor the lord with the first 100.00.
Proverbs often contrast the way of wisdom with the way of the fool
Putting God first with the tithe… is the way of wisdom
The fool’s way is to…
Give God the leftovers & keep the first fruit for yourself…
The book of Mal. actually call’s this stealing from God.
Why does this matter? Becuase giving a 1st fruit shows what/who you prioritize.
Here is the question I believe scripture is asking…

Question: What/Who do you give your first fruits to?

Ok… According to proverbs… The next thing we should we should do with our money… IN YOUR NOTES is…

PLAN our money out (Prov. 21:5)

***Clay you can have the point and upcoming verse on the same slide… it will come fast
We should plan out… what we want to do with our money. We see this in… Prov. 21:5
Proverbs 21:5 ESV
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
In other words…
Have a Budget
Scripture says… be Diligent.. pay attention to your budget.
Make sure you are putting your money in the right places.
If you can barley cover your bills you probably should not go on expensive vacations.
Be realistic - a budget helps you do this.
One of the things I learned from my father in law about money is this… You get to choose what you do with you money, but also remember you can’t chose to do everything with it.
For example:
You can drive it -
You can eat it
You can live in it
You can travel with it.
***But most can’t do all of these things… So decided whats important to you and be willing to sacrifice on the others.
STORY: In 2020 Krista and I asked ourselves this question… “Do we want to one day move into a larger home or would we like to do something else with our money?
We decided we would rather travel more vs live in a bigger home with bigger expenses.
Make sure in planning your money out… you include
Planning for emergencies by having an Emergency Fund.
An emergency fund is an account with 3-6 months of your monthly income saved for emergencies only.
Car will break down, Unplanned Home or medical expenses
Honestly, we know emergencies will happen. When we plan for them, they wont be emergencies.
I remember paying for all for 4 tires for the first time from our emergency fund & it was NOT stressful - I thanked God for it.
Proverbs always contrast the wise with the fool
The wise Plan their money well, a fool rushes into financial discussions without counting the cost.
Listen… if you do this one thing right.. it will save you LOTS of financial issues. IN YOUR NOTES…

Make sure your EXPENSES do not exceed your INCOME

Spend less than you make.
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask ourselves today…

Question: What is your balance at the end of the month?

Do you know this?
If you don’t… its time to get to work

Sermon Title | Wise MONEY
According to proverbs… The next thing we should we should do with our money… IN YOUR NOTES is…

PROTECT our money (Prov. 22:7)

***Clay you can have the point and upcoming verse on the same slide… it will come fast
Yea… we should protect our money…. from owing others… by avoiding debt.
We see this in… Prov. 22:7.. it says…
Proverbs 22:7 ESV
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
According to scripture it’s UNWISE to live in debt.
Scripture says to owe someone money is to be a slave to them.
Let me ask you this… has God called you Into a life of freedom or slavery?
Right FREEDOM:
However when we choose debt… we are closing slavery… Others control what you do with your money.
Strategic debt like a mortgage is different than impulsive debt… like putting furniture or food on a credit card that you can’t pay off at the end of the month.
A few months back…
Story: Krista & Eli got T-boned
Our 2023 Kia was totaled. We had cash from the payoff and were on our way to buy newer used car. My father-in-law found a Clean - 2015 Chevy Equinox w/ 60k miles… for $10k… a great deal. I told Krista: we have to decide now, or I walk off a lot today with a new car and a new loan.
We chose to pay cash and stay debt-free. Now we take that old car payment amount and put it in an account every month. When it's time to buy again, we'll be ready with cash. It's amazing how fast it accrues.
Let me say it like this..

When we carry debt we are choosing todays COMFORT over tomorrow FREEDOM.

Do the right thing today… you will thank yourself tomorrow.
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask us today…

Question: What is your debt elimination plan?

If you have debt get out of it… get free so you can go where God as you to go.. give what God ask you to give.
Make it a priority to get out of debt.
We put a resource to help you learn about Financial Peace University - it will help you get back on track.
According to proverbs… The next thing we should we should do with our money… IN YOUR NOTES is…

PRODUCE our money (Prov. 10:4, 1 Tim. 5:8)

***Clay you can have the point and upcoming verse on the same slide… it will come fast
Yea… we should produce our money through hard work.
We see this in…
Proverbs 10:4 NIV
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
Scripture describes that we should work had for our money.
Work with our God given minds … our hands our physcal strength.
We should not expect others to do for us… what God has empowered us to do for ourselves. (REPEAT)
This is one of the ways God provides for you and your family.. through the hard work of your own hands.
Scripture is really strong on this…1 Tim. 5:8 says this..
1 Timothy 5:8 ESV
But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Friends… we are called and commanded as believers to provide for our families through honest -hard-work…
If your investing your time and effort and it’s not producing… know when to pull the plug and move on.
If your a stay at home parent.. then work hard at it.. managing the house… Raising kids, cooking, cleaning is hard WORK.
***If your both working… then evenly split up the this load.
Here is the truth…
Every new day we get further and further away from the single household income working. Don’t be discouraged if you can not afford to do this. Its not the same economy as it was 10 years ago. Both spouses will most likely need to work, If your single, you might need to get a room-mate.
In your notes

Take care of your work TODAY, and your work will help take care of you TOMORROW

Here is the question ….

Question: What work or ability has God given you that you might be neglecting?

According to proverbs… The last thing we should we should do with our money… IN YOUR NOTES is…

PROVIDE with our money (Prov. 13:22)

***Clay you can have the point and upcoming verse on the same slide… it will come fast
We see this in… Prov. 13:22… lets look at it on the screen together…
Proverbs 13:22 ESV
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.
Yea we should help provide for our kids… by giving them an inheritance.
Now…
Eli wont get all our retirement lol - we will need it to live on it and we will play with it.
But we hope to have a n inheritance to leave for her when we’re all done with this life.
Everyone might not have this oportunity… but you can still help your kids by…
Taking care of your finances… don’t leave a mess for your kids when your gone.
If you have debt… get it paid off.
If you have a home… or assets… put it in a TRUST… to protect those assets and make sure they get where they belong without the hassle of expensive attorneys.
Eli will not get off rich off of her parents… but I hope she gets a good hand up.
We also see in Prov. 11:25 we should provide by living generous with others.
Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
It’s more blessed to give than receive…
Krista and I do this so we can live generously. We plan every month to give above our tithes - a sidgnificant part of this extra goes to missions.
Yea we should not spend all we get on ourselves… we should share some with others..
We should live generously… as believers.. if you have the means and you see a need… fill it.
By the way when you give to TGP Missions your are giving to credible ministries that are caring for the Poor, the hungry and Orphans.. thats getting the Gospel round the world.
This is the way of the wise… to live generously…. While the way of the fool is to hold onto every penny they get.
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask ourselves today…

Question: Who has God put around you that might need your generosity?

We’re talking about…
Sermon Title | Wise MONEY
According to proverbs its wise to..
Prioritize your money Giving to God first.
By…
Plan our money out by having a budget, and prioritizing our expenses.
By…
Protecting our money… by not accumulating debt
By…
Producing money through hard work
and by..
Providing for others through generosity.

As we close today…
Don’t let these principals in proverbs cause you to turn these proverbs into another kind of Law… or works based Christianity… don’t get me wrong… we have to work… proverbs is clear that this kind of fruit is proof of our faith..
But.. I want to Making sure you balance these principals with the Grace and power of Gods transforming work.

So today… if you do NOT know Jesus as your Lord and Savior today is your day…
Salvation Altar Call
I believe Jesus is here today, and He wants to save you. Salvation simply means to deliver or to free. It’s not just about delivering you…
It’s about believing
Believing in Jesus means trusting what He say’s—about sin, and eternal punishment, thats the bad news.
The good news is this… that His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins, making us right with God.
Ephesians 2:8 reminds us: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Salvation requires two things:
1. God’s Grace—His undeserved gift of forgiveness and life because of His love for you.
2. Faith—placing your trust in Him for salvation.
If you’ve never asked Jesus to save you, today is your day. If you’d like ask him… , raise your hand.
I want to invite you to Repeat a prayer after me
· There is nothing magical in this prayer.. it simply is a way of declaring to Jesus what has taken place in your heart.
Here is how I would like to end the service for everyone else….
Call to Action Altar Call
We’re going to end the service with A question as we do nearly every week.
Has God spoken to you today stand up…
If you need help and increase… in the area of finances, STAND UP
If you want a reset in the area of finances STAND UP
If you need a Job to produce the finances you need. STAND UP
If your ready to begin prioritizing your first fruits… with the tithe… STAND UP
We want to pray for you today… STAND UP
ALL ACROSS THE ROOM – HAS THE HOLY SPIRIT spoken to you in anyway today?

Going Deeper

What/Who do you give your first fruits to?
What is your balance at the end of the month?
What is your debt elimination plan?
What work has God given you that you might be neglecting?
Who has God put around you that might need your generosity?
What might the Holy Spirit be saying to you in light of this teaching?
How might the Holy Spirit want to transform you in light of this teaching?
What actions might the Holy Spirit want to take in light of this teaching?
Tongues & Interpretation
1. To STRENGTHEN the Church (1 Cor14:5)
For prophecy is greater than SPEAKING in TONGUES, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be STRENGTHENED.
Believers, God has operated through this gift today to strengthen you today. Let your faith be strengthened and know that God is in control and using supernatural measures to speak to us.
2. Is a SIGN for unbelievers. (1Cor. 14: 21a, 22)
1 Corinthians 14:21–22 (ESV)
In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
22 -  So you see that speaking in tongues is a SIGN, not for believers, but for UNBELIEVERS.
The Bible explains to us God has chosen to use this gift to be a sign for you. A sign for what? It is a sign of his realness for those of you who have been doubting or questioning the existence of God. He wants you to know he is REAL and he wants to bring you spiritual life and health. If you're in here today and you don't know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior... he wants you to know he has gone to great lengths to show you his love today. (Great opportunity for a salvation altar call if it fits).
