Hebrews 4:12-13 — Effective & Discerning

Trust that The Living Word of God always accomplishes what is intended.

1. The Word of God is Alive and Effective.

ALIVE

(All promises are alive)

(All warnings are alive)

All blessings are alive)

(All threatenings are alive.)

It is living therefore it is effective.

EFFECTIVE

Draw us closer vs. Make us flee

Give us more faith vs. Make us question

God’s Word is full of activity.

For salvation

For judgment

Always accomplishes what God intends

God spoke and the world was created God spoke and the faithful obeyed God spoke and judgments came forth God spoke and promises were made God spoke through His Son (Heb. 1:1)

In these last days

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (Jn 1:1-3)

Jesus’ words were living and active. Jesus spoke and the lame walked Jesus spoke and the deaf heard Jesus spoke and the demons fled Jesus spoke and the hypocrites were exposed Jesus spoke and the storms stopped Jesus spoke and the dead were raised. 1 Peter 1:23–24 “23 because you have been born again—not of perishable seed but of imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like a flower of the grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls,”

2. The Word of God is Sharp and Discerning

The hardest material known to man Hebrews 4:12 “12 For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Isaiah 49:2 “2 He made my words like a sharp sword; he hid me in the shadow of his hand. He made me like a sharpened arrow; he hid me in his quiver.”

Revelation 1:16 “16 He had seven stars in his right hand; a sharp double-edged sword came from his mouth, and his face was shining like the sun at full strength.” Revelation 19:15 “15 A sharp sword came from his mouth, so that he might strike the nations with it. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty.” Ephesians 6:17 “17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God.”

3. The Word of God is Always Exposing

Everything is and constantly present before God — Nothing is hidden

Omniscience means that God knows everything, things actual and possible, effortlessly and equally well.
