This world likes to tell us what is a man!
But the world is so confused by it’s own identity that it gives conflicting views of what is a man! Heck, it has trouble figuring out what bathroom to use.
Parts of the world says that a man must have grit, must be dogmatic it his determination, must be able to disassemble an ar-15 while being blindfolded, be able to field dress a deer with a sharp stone ,and do it all with a rock solid 6 pack abs.
Parts of the world says we must be like Lennie, being in touch with our feelings, be sensitive, learn that it is ok to be fragile, and that we must care for the unfortunate.
Still others say that we must be good leaders, tall with a physical stature that dominates above all, we must be rich, we must have a social media presence, and have sexual prowess.
That is masculinity right?
Well, that is the worlds standard of masculinity, but is there another standard?
The world says, we must follow what these men look and act like on social media.
Honestly, there is only one man that I must look towards to see what a true man is supposed to be and that man is Jesus Christ.
He is the Son of God, the Alpha and Omega, the true example of masculinity. An example of true maturity in a world of immature confused boys trying to act like men.
He is the standard of manhood. His life showed us the perfect example of balance of strength, vulnerability, moral courage, servant leadership, compassion that can not be measured, and unwavering integrity.
So today for Father’s day, I would like to first acknowledge all the Father’s in the house and all those online.
This message is made for all men. We state that we want to be Christlike and that means looking at Christ as our example of masculinity.
Ladies this message is also for you. It is made for you to hold up your man and demand that they show these qualities so they can lead you and your home better.
It is made for you to see where you can be his helpmate and where you can support him in this life.
And for all the single ladies, this is the standard that you should look for in the man God has called for you.
What I am saying is this message is not one of compromise, but one that demands attention and requires us as men to stand in the footsteps of Christ.
I was doing research on this message and I found 8 qualities that Christ showed us on what it meant to be a biblical man.
But first let’s pray for this message and for those who hear it.
The first two qualities of a biblical man are:
Integrity & Self-Control
Christ actions always aligned with His words. He had mastery over His emotions, his desires, and how He responded even when faced with intense pressures.
Our first example of biblical manhood is when Christ was in the desert and after 40 days of fasting, He was tempted by the devil.
Matthew 4:1–11 CSB
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. Then the tempter approached him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” He answered, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Then the devil took him to the holy city, had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: He will give his angels orders concerning you, and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Jesus told him, “It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God.” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.” Then the devil left him, and angels came and began to serve him.
His words, His actions and His self-control, shows us that a biblical man must be someone who knows his words must be followed by his actions and his action must show a level of self-control.
A biblical man shows us, through truth and the ability to do it all with an aura of control.
Courage and Strength
Christ shows us what courage and strength means throughout His life. He had to face the religious corruption, he had to defend those who could not defend themselves, and showed us how it act when we face suffering.
The example we will look at is this:
Luke 22:41–42 CSB
Then he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and began to pray, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me—nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
This as most of you know, is when Christ finished the last supper and went into the Garden to pray.
Notice, courage is not a lack of being sacred, but it is doing what is required even in the face of fear.
Strength is realizing you have courage because you rely on God and His will.
And both are shown when you hit your knees and pray.
Praying even when you know the situation will not change. Praying when the answer is no. Praying when the tears are falling from your face and the words will not come. Praying God’s it is in your will, not my desires.
That is courage and strength.
Humility and Gentleness
Christ is the pure example of humility and profound gentleness. He welcomed women and children, he comforted those who were suffering, he showed true service and grace to all.
Matthew 11:29 CSB
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
In the ancient world, a yoke was a wooden harness used to join animals together for work. "Taking Jesus' yoke" is a metaphor for aligning your life with His teachings and walking in step with Him.
Unlike the religious leaders of the time who demanded heavy adherence to strict, man-made rules (such as the rigid regulations on Sabbath work), Jesus offered a way defined by grace and truth.
Jesus proves Himself to be a gentle, approachable, and compassionate guide. He is not an abusive or demanding taskmaster, which is why His "burden is light".
This promises deep, inner peace and spiritual relief. It assures believers that when they surrender control to Jesus, He shares the weight of their burdens.
Love and Emotional Depth
Jesus never was ashamed to show grief, anger, and deep affection. His model of manhood rejects the idea of selfishness in favor of love and emotional availability.
John 11:35 CSB
Jesus wept.
Jesus was standing outside the tomb of his close friend, Lazarus. He was surrounded by Lazarus's grieving sisters, Mary and Martha, and a crowd of mourners. Even though Jesus knew He was about to perform a miracle and resurrect Lazarus, He still wept.
Jesus fully shared in the agonizing sorrow of the friends and family he loved. His tears demonstrate that it is okay to experience real human emotions during tragic loss. In the original Greek language, the passage implies that Jesus was "deeply moved" and "troubled" by the destructive power of death. Death was never part of God’s original design, and Jesus wept over the brokenness of the world.
The primary comfort of John 11:35 is that it proves Jesus is an empathetic Savior. Even when He knows the "end of the story" or plans to provide a miraculous solution, He still sits with us in our pain, validates our grief, and weeps alongside us.
Courage, strength, humility, gentleness, integrity, self-control, emotional depth, and most of all love.
These are the qualities of true biblical manhood.
To be the leader in your home, your job, your church and your community, you must display and live these 8 qualities that Christ showed to us.
Now I will ask that every man stand you in the church today.
I want to pray for you on this Father’s day.
