🎤 SERIES: FOLLOWING JESUS

🔥 MESSAGE 1: THE CALL THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

📖 Luke 9:23-25

"If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me."
🎯 Theme: Jesus did not call us merely to admire His life. He called us to follow Him.

🙌 WELCOME

Good morning, church!
What a joy it is to welcome each and every one of you this morning.
If you are visiting us for the first time, we want to say: welcome home!
Our prayer is that today you will not simply attend a service, but that you will have a genuine encounter with Jesus.
Over the past several weeks, we have been in a series called:
👉 "SIGNS: More Than Miracles"
We learned that Jesus' miracles were not merely displays of power.
They were signs pointing to His identity.
We discovered that:
Jesus transforms
Jesus heals
Jesus sustains
Jesus opens blind eyes
Jesus raises the dead
But now a question arises:
👉 What happens after we meet Jesus?
What does He expect from us?
What does life look like after the encounter?
That is exactly what this new series is about.
Because Jesus' goal was never simply that people would believe in Him.
👉 His goal was always that they would follow Him.

🎬 INTRODUCTION

We live in a generation fascinated by followers.
Everyone follows someone.
We follow:
influencers
athletes
celebrities
content creators
But there is a huge difference between:
👉 following someone on social media
and
👉 following someone with your life.
Because following Jesus is not clicking a button.
It is surrendering your heart.
Today there is a comfortable version of Christianity.
A version that says:
👉 "Accept Jesus and keep living however you want."
But that is not the message of the Gospels.
Jesus never called admirers.
Jesus called disciples.
He never said:
👉 "Like Me."
He said:
👉 "Follow Me."

📖 THE TEXT

Luke 9:23
"If anyone would come after Me..."
Pause.
Jesus is not speaking to a spiritual elite.
He is not speaking only to pastors.
He is not speaking only to missionaries.
He says:
👉 "If anyone..."
Any person.
Any age.
Any background.
Any past.
The invitation is universal.
But so is the cost.

I. FOLLOWING JESUS BEGINS WITH A DECISION

📖 "If anyone WOULD COME after Me..."
Christianity begins with a choice.
God forces no one.
Jesus does not invade hearts.
He invites.
There is a difference between:
👉 attending church
and
👉 deciding to follow Jesus.
Many people want:
the blessings of Jesus
the miracles of Jesus
the help of Jesus
But they do not want Jesus as Lord.
Following Jesus begins when you say:
👉 "My life no longer belongs to me."

II. FOLLOWING JESUS REQUIRES SELF-DENIAL

📖 "Let him deny himself"
This may be one of the least popular phrases in modern Christianity.
Because our culture says:
👉 "Follow your heart."
Jesus says:
👉 "Deny yourself."
Our culture says:
👉 "Do what makes you happy."
Jesus says:
👉 "Follow Me."
Self-denial does not mean hating who you are.
It means placing Christ at the center.
👉 Illustration
Imagine someone sitting behind the wheel of their life.
Controlling everything.
Making every decision.
Choosing every direction.
Following Jesus means getting out of the driver's seat.
And handing Him the wheel.
And that is where the struggle begins.
Because we love control.
We want Jesus as a passenger.
But He came to be Lord.

III. FOLLOWING JESUS INVOLVES A CROSS

📖 "Take up his cross daily"
Today the cross has become a decorative symbol.
But to Jesus' audience, it meant one thing:
👉 death.
Jesus was saying:
"Whoever follows Me must die to self."
Die to:
pride
selfishness
independence
sin
The cross is not something we carry once.
📖 "Daily"
Every day.
Every morning.
Every decision.
Every choice.
There is a daily discipleship.

IV. FOLLOWING JESUS HAS A COST

📖 Luke 9:24
"Whoever wants to save his life will lose it."
Jesus is saying something radical.
Whoever lives only for themselves...
loses the very purpose of life.
👉 Illustration for young adults
Our generation is chasing:
careers
money
success
recognition
None of these things are wrong.
But none of them can sustain a lifetime.
Because you can achieve all of them...
and still feel empty.
The problem is not success.
The problem is living for something too small.
Jesus calls us to something greater.

V. FOLLOWING JESUS IS FINDING TRUE LIFE

📖 Luke 9:24
"Whoever loses his life for My sake will save it."
Here is the paradox of the Kingdom.
You find life...
when you surrender your life.
You find purpose...
when you surrender to God's purpose.
You find freedom...
when you submit to Christ.
Because following Jesus is not losing.
It is gaining something infinitely better.

❤️ APPLICATION

The question is not:
👉 Do you believe in Jesus?
The question is:
👉 Are you following Jesus?
Because there is a difference.
The disciples left their nets.
Matthew left his tax booth.
Peter left his boats.
What about you?
What is Jesus asking you to surrender?
Maybe:
a hidden sin
an unhealthy relationship
a dream that has taken God's place
control over your life
The call remains the same.
👉 "Follow Me."

🔥 EVANGELISTIC APPEAL

(slower, more personal)
Maybe you know about Jesus...
but you have never truly followed Him.
You attend church.
You know the songs.
You know the verses.
But you are still living for yourself.
Today Jesus is not asking for perfection.
He is asking for surrender.
Maybe you are tired of carrying the weight of your own life.
Tired of trying to control everything.
Tired of living without direction.
And today Jesus is saying:
👉 "Come after Me."
Not because the road will be easy.
But because He will walk it with you.
If today you want to say:
👉 "Jesus, I want to follow You."
👉 "Jesus, I surrender control."
👉 "Jesus, I want to live for something greater."
This is your moment.

🙏 SALVATION PRAYER

"Lord Jesus,
Today I hear Your call.
For too long I have lived for myself.
I have tried to control my life.
I have searched for purpose apart from You.
But today I surrender.
Forgive my sins.
Transform my heart.
Teach me to follow You.
Be my Savior.
Be my Lord.
I give my life to You.
And I choose to follow You every day.
In Jesus' name,
Amen."

🎯 CLOSING STATEMENT

👉 "Jesus is not looking for admirers. He is still looking for disciples."
