Friday Night: Believing to Trusting

Is believing and trusting the same thing?

Believing is the conviction something is true

Trusting is that belief worked out

James 2:17 “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

The works demonstrate the faith we proclaim with our mouth

So the question for you is, do you simply believe, or does your belief turn into trust (which produces works: the evidence)

Our Identity Before Christ - Sinner

Out of sin we were born

Deserving the full wrath of God

Find our identity in what we do, what we have, or what we have achieved

Love our sin

Our Identity In Christ - Saint/Child of God

When we become a child of God, by placing our faith and trust in Jesus as our propitiation (the sacrifice that satisfies God’s wrath), we receive several things:

a new identity - saint/child of God

an inheritance

a citizenship in heaven - we are now foreigners in an unknown land (Hebrews 11:13–16)

Living Out Our Identity

If we are children of God then we are representatives of Him

Just as a child is a representative of a family, by the way they cary their last name wherever they go

We as children of God carry His name everywhere we go as He indwells inside of us

Questions for you here is, do you see how you have been made anew? Is your life a testament of the inward regeneration that has occured? If no, are you in Christ?

Saturday Night: Character Matters

What is character?

who you are when no one is supervising you

Why does character matter?

How would you define someone with good character?

Always doing what is right no matter the stakes

Does Culture make it hard to have Good character? How so?

tells us to focus on ourselves more than others. Do what is pleasing for yourself?

We have thoughts and desires we ought not act on.

Proverbs 11:1–3 “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.”

Good character is pleasing, while bad character is detested by the Lord

Disgrace comes to the prideful, while wisdom is given by God to the humble

Look at people you may know, or famous people or even your own life? Who ends up better those humble or prideful?

What does your character say about you? Does your Character line up with who you are in Christ? Does it line up with the trust (living out the faith in action)?

Sunday Track Time: The Cure To Worry

We worry about a lot, What are some of those things? Why do you worry about them?

Matthew 6:25–27 ““Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”

We worry because we do not rest in the truth

Think back to believing vs trusting, you may believe that God can supply your every need, but do you trust Him to do it.

We worry because we look at our feelings and say they are bigger than God. We forget that God is sufficient for all things.

Would you say worry is lacking the trust that God it?

If you are worrying right now remember this:

God goes before you - Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

God goes with you - Matthew 28:20 “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””

Sunday Night: Your Friends Tell A Story About You

3 types of people in your life

Inner circle: friends and people you listen to and allow to direct your life (discipleship)

Middle circle: friends that you have but not necessarily allow to speak life into you (ministry)

Outer circle: Acquaintances and people you do not know (mission field)

Who you let into your inner circle tells a lot about you

You are the average of your 5 closest friends

The warnings

1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”” - Paul

Proverbs 13:20 “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” - Solomon

Psalm 1 “The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”

Are your friends dragging you down or building you up in the way of the Lord? What about yourself, do you build people up or cause them to stumble? Who in your inner circle needs to be moved out from it? What do you need to do to surround yourself with better people?

What does the Holy Spirit do?

Romans 8:26–27 “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

Why do we need the Holy Spirit?

Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”

Romans 3:10–11 “as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.”

Ephesians 2:1 “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins”

John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”

Man is depraved and does not seek God without the Spirit calling and drawing a person. Mark 10:18 “And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.” So every good deed we do is because Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

Monday Night: Making Wise vs Unwise Decisions

We are always being bombarded with decisions that are having to be made, in 5 years there is well over 68 mil. decisions that you’ll make

How do we make wise decisions versus unwise decisions?

Proverbs 3:5–6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

why?

To make wise decisions, what do we rely on?

The Word of God

The Holy Spirit to guid us

The Bible is simple, just do as it says

What has the Lord told us to do?

Pursue sanctification & be conformed to Christ: 1 Thessalonians 4:3–5 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;” Romans 8:29 “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”

Giving thanks to God: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

You obey: 1 Peter 2:15 “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”

Love God and Love People: Matthew 22:37–40 “And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.””

Live on mission: Matthew 28:18–20 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””

What will the Holy Spirit guid us to do (based on previous track time)?

Does man desire to do these things on his own?

No

How does man then make wise choices?

By the wisdom given to him/her from the Lord; by actually following the Holy Spirit

So how should we make decisions? How does that compare to how you currently make decisions?
