VBS Day 2
Bible verse Psalm 139:1
O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
Today we are going to talk about the fact that God knows everything. Remember, yesterday we talked about the truth that God made everything, but today He, God the Father knows everything
Now there is a man in the Bible who was just a shepherd, and God made him a King over Israel. And David, not only was a King of Israel, but he also wrote many songs of worship and praise, that we call Psalms.
So Psalm 139, is one such Psalm and lets see what David says ....
1 Explore My Heart....
So verse 1, David says Ps 139:1
O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
When we look at this we know that God examines our hearts, each one of us.
So think about your heart that beats in your chest, do you know that while you are sitting here with me, your heart is beating on average 70 BPM.
And think about this, it is beating so strong with each beat that it is pumping blood all around your body. It can do this becasue it beats so strong.
So when we talk about the heart of a man or woman, we can refer to what is sitting inside our chest, beating and pumping blood, but in the bible the word heart is often referring to something more.
It means who we are on the inside, our nature and what we are like as a person. If I say that person has a good heart, I am saying they are kind, giving or a loving person who cares for others.
If I say their heart is wicked, I am saying they are a bad person, maybe they hate others, or talk bad about people...
And everyone is different, not every is good or bad, some are and some are not, so your heart tells a lot about who you are ...
There is a lot about you that tells us who you are, your DNA, your finger prints are just yours, no one else has them. You are the only you God has made...
You are unique and special, and God knows everything about each of us, whether good or bad....
And not only does God know our heart, he knows the inside of our brain, He knows what we are thinking..
2. God knows what we are Thinking...
Look at verse 2, Psalm 139:2
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
Wow, God says he knows everything about us, when we sit down and when we stand up, when we lie down or when we get up each morning...
And more than that, God knows what we are thinking no matter where we are....
You know if I tell you to hold your right hand up and I go around and give each of you a “high five,” the moment you felt my touch, that signal of the touch traveled in your nerves to your brain at about 170 mph, and you understood that quickly what happened…
God knew everything you were thinking as you brain figured out you got a “high five.” Even thought that no one else knew about…
Wow, God knows everything...
But did you know that God knows about everything going on in our lives?
3 God Knows what is going on in our lives.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
So as we have already said, God knows what is going on in our hearts and minds, but he also knows what going on in our lives.
No matter where we go, no matter where we find ourselves, God knows where we are at and what we are doing.
Think of this, every place, you walked, sat or played today, God knew where you were ad where you were going next...
4. God Knows what we are about to say...
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
So think of this, King David says God’s ways are so perfect ad so awesome, that he knows the words we will speak even before we say them.
You know on a average day, your lungs move enough air to blow up more than a 1000 balloons.
And can you imagine how may words are formed on all that air? Yet God knows every one o fthem.
He even knows out thoughts...
5. God made us Well...
13 For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
Daivd says here, you God, made me, formed me, knit me in my mother’s belly
So think of this, we go from nothing to something wonderful becasue of God’s power and handiwork.
David says I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
We enter this world and begin to grow, learn speak talk, walk, ride, drive we can be creatiive, and the list can go on and on...
And God knows it all...
God knows everything...
